Personally I think the rusting adds to the ambience. My question is how long does the pit last after the rust begins.

My fire pit is about three years old. I think you have to expect a little bit of rust since the heat is so intense. I think it adds to the look. I bought an aftermarket cover and it was much better. I bought my cover from the cover store. They make one that fits. I would buy this pit again.
