Q:Can this be used for sub flooring? What is the approximate moisture content?
      by|Aug 21, 2022
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Sparkson, This can be used for subflooring, but it's much thicker, nicer and more expensive than needed. Non-Treated plywood is generally less than 10% moisture content. It’s much more difficult to pin the moisture content on plywood vs lumber. For plywood, its been on an extended supply chain adventure involving boats, trains, and trucks, whereas for lumber we are generally kiln drying it and sending it to a store within a matter of days. If it isn’t warping, the moisture content is right where it needs to be, and if it is warping, the store probably left it sitting on a pallet in summer humidity.

This Birch plywood to be just as good as the 4' x 8' sheet product. There are only small gaps in the plies, making it suitable for painted cabinetwork. The quality of one side is slightly better than the other, so there is a clear front versus back of the sheet. However, I feel the pricing is painfully ridiculous. I was working on a project where I estimated I needed 3 sheets of 4x8 plywood, and ran just a bit short. (I neglected to count the two shelves you can see behind the frosted glass in the picture.) The 4'x8' sheet of the same material costs $56. This 2'x4' piece is a quarter sheet of plywood, but costs about half as much as the full sheet. If I had room in my small shop, I would have bought the larger piece. I don't, so I had to bite the bullet and pay the jacked up price.

          Boards are not cut evenly.
Bought two panels for a corn hole bosrd. Both ends that has the sticker were 23 3/4. Opposite end was a full 24 inches. Had to drag out my table saw to cut. Would have been cheaper to purchase a full sheet of plywood and cut it myself since i had to drag out my saws ultimately, the birch material is ideal for the corn hole bags to slide

It was not warped or damaged. The board was used for cabinet doors which were eventually painted.

Used board as a table top for this modern saw horse desk. Mainly using for sewing and laptop use. I have had it up for about 4 weeks now, and so far, no warping!

I was really wanting a solid board to replace a table top. I thought this nicer plyboard would do the trick. Unfortunately when it was cut and routed the edges peeled and there were holes in the side.

Hmmm, I've never reviewed a piece of wood before, let's see. . . This is not the first time I have purchased this piece of plywood, it is my go to choice for mounting datacom gear on a wall, especially concrete walls. I always find the finish to be smooth on both side and the edges to be pretty clean. I could go with a cheaper piece of plywood, but I prefer the clean, finished look of this birch plywood. Word to the wise, never mount a sheet of plywood directly to a concrete wall, in this case, I have 3 2x4 boards on the back, 1 down the center and one down either side. It is also mounted to the wall only by the lower half so that the gear would be at eye level; I used 2" deck screws to attach the plywood to the boards and then used 1/4" by 4" Tapcon screws to mount it all to the wall.
