I was thinking about using plugs over sod, but these plugs are $55 for $36 Square Feet? That is almost twice the price of buying sod. I thought plugs would be a less expensive option. Am I missing something here.
Asked by: rwbil
You're not missing anything. HD is way overpriced.

What is the best tool for digging the perfect hole to accomodate these plugs?
Asked by: Chuck
Hi Chuck, Some stores have a plugger lawn tool made for digging the perfect hole for sod plugs. You can also check online for the plugger tool. A handheld shovel will also work.

Your advertising says $54.98 per CASE. And it says 36 plug trayS. My question is: How many trays in a case?

Asked by: Morgan
There are 36 trays in a case. I will say the trays are a LOT smaller than I thought. They are a lot smaller than I thought. The entire case was about the size of a flower crate. The plugs are about 2 inches by 2 inches. If you have large areas I would recommend you buy some sheets of sod. I like them a lot better.

Should I rope off my lawn so the landscape guys don't mow? And for how long?
Asked by: Sharon
I did not have good luck with my plugs. I put them in an area where I had just added topsoil on the edge of the drive way and heavy thunder storms washed most of them out. If putting them in an area subject to this kind of problem, I would use sod instead. That is not to say they wouldn't work well in many situations. R. Herndon

I was able to easily remove the plugs and plant them. The plugs have been in the ground for about 10 days now and are all still looking healthy ( I have been watering them every day). The only thing I would mention is that I ordered these plugs because I did not know that my local store had fresh sod squares ( I had tried a few nurseries and garden centers looking for sod but they did not plan to get any - so I tried the Home Depot and another large competitors website looking for individual sod squares and when the site didn't show that they had them I decided to bite the bullet and order the plugs before summer arrived - and of course as usually happens in life, after I ordered the plugs, pallets of sod showed at my local Home Depot store <sigh>. - in conclusion, the plugs are good, but I would not have bought them - hence only 4 stars. IF you are looking for plugs, I definitely would recommend these)

However, I found the exact product at homedepot for 14.00 a tray. IL purchased 20 trays to fill in a large patch of grass that had been devastated by fungus. The grass was easy to plant has taken hold and is spreading. The grass is thick and green. This beats putting in the large patches of grass and gives my lawn a smooth finish. My neighbors have watch my labor of love and since planting many have stopped by and given me compliments on ow well the lawn is coming along.

I delayed opening the boxes for a day or two longer then recommended but the grass plugs were healthy and green. They planted very easily. I followed the care instructions included in the box. The plugs are health, green, and showing some growth after just a week or so in the ground.

I have two very large dogs so no matter how much seeding I need my sprouts could not withstand the pounding of my 120+ pound dogs. The St. Augustine plugs are hardy and have taken a beating and still thrived. I’m very pleased and will continue to add more plugs throughout my yard!
