Yes. The description literally says "Vent Free".
This model does not come with a remote control. It does have a thermostat.
Yes - I had the same thing. First, make sure that you remove the metal cap that by default is over the NG inlet and move it to the LPG side. When doing so, do NOT remove the yellow plastic plunger thing that will be under the metal cap on the NG side. This is where you hook up your natural gas supply line (in the NG inlet). If you're sure you have that right, then the issue is very likely that you need to adjust the "pressure switch set screw". I had this very issue. No matter what I did, the pilot would not light. I tried and tried. After adjusting that pressure switch set screw, BAM - it lit right up. There's a drawing of it on page 24 of the install guide. I've attached a shot of that section. This was definitely my problem, and it worked. Hope it helps you.
No remote control with this log set
I kind of doubt it would be "rated" for outdoor use - although it's probably the same as a propane/gas BBQ grill sitting outside. The valve/mechanism is probably the same kind of components.
Not exactly sure what a milivokt valve is, but it does come with its own valve, with off, pilot, and variable adjustment. You can either light the pilot with some lighter, or use the spark-generator push-switch that comes with it (battery powered). One thing we liked about this set is that the valve, spark push-switch and other mechanical things aren’t real visible in the fronts it looks more like an actual set of logs than some other sets out there where you can see all of those things
Yes. It has a thermocoupler that will close the gas valve if it senses a loss of flame.
Very likely, yes. If you've done ANY very basic plumbing work before (install a faucet, replace water supply lines for washer/dryer, etc) this is very similar. As long as you have a gas supply line in your fireplace, the concept is the same. Make sure you either use pipe dope (like Blue Monster brand, etc rated for gas) or yellow pipe tape (yellow is for gas, white is for water - so use the yellow tape if you go with tape instead of pipe dope). Follow the instructions closely and don't skip any step, and you'll be just fine. I would also suggest buying the smallest amount of leak detector spray so that you can check your connections after you get it hooked up. There will be one gas hose that you will hook up, so obviously you'll spray/check both ends of that line after you have it hooked up. Gas has a very low psi compared with water - but it's a great idea to check for leaks in your supply line anyway.
Nope none of that is included. But Home Depot did have smallish bags of lava rock right with the gas log sets for around 10 bucks. As far as rock wool, they sell that separately as well, but there isn't a burner down low that would make the wool glow. We bought this set last night and hooked it up today. It's built pretty well and the logs look good. The flame definitely heats the area up good. The flame isn't as large as I was hoping, but it's good ambiance.
This unit does not have a remote control. It does have a thermostat.
