Product Overview

The HeatStream SilentDrive 70R is an ideal kerosene space heating solution for spaces up to 1,750 sq. ft. It combines both forced air heating and radiant heating processes to bring fast efficient heat to your space. It takes some time for hot air to warm a room full of cold air, but as soon as the 70R’s front plate is glowing, it is emitting radiant heat. Radiant heat warms objects directly, just like a campfire or sun light. The combination of heating methods makes the SilentDrive 70R an effective evolution in torpedo heater technology.

What is the max temp this heater will shut down at? I need to heat up to 130 degrees.

I'm not aware of any specific "shut down temperature" at all. I'm sure there are safety features that wouldn't allow the burner to run if it was tipped over or if it started to belch fire out the front for some reason, but that would have to be much hotter than 130 degrees. If I'm wrong, I'd love to be informed if there is a specific cut off temperature, but I don't see how they could do it at 130 inside the barrel of the burner. I suspect it's always WAY more than 130 in there.

heater puffs when running. Why?

Answer

Read your manual. There's an adjustment and an included tool to do just that. Ignition "puff" can be caused by many things, but it's always the result of an improper air - fuel mixture. That can result from dirty fuel jets, restricted air intake or may even happen in transition between K-1 and diesel fuel. In any event, your manual is excellent in showing you how to adjust this and has one of the most complete and accurate diagrams - parts list that I,ve ever seen. Good Luck!

Got this for my father in law. He's one of those guys who has everything already and really knows tools and equipment. He's had disappointing results with a couple of propane heaters and a big barrel stove in his big open truss Butler building but he just loves this heater. It heats the workshop area where he does repair and hobby work nicely. This has been a cold Nebraska winter so it's been a pretty good test. He's just using #2 diesel in it.

It hasn't made it through a New York winter yet, but...
This unit was everything they say. A reasonably quiet, hybrid between a "salamander" type heater and a completely radiant "noiseless" heater. The manual is complete with a blow-up picture and complete parts list, everything. When the unit arrived, I filled it with K-1 (3.8 gal. even though the specs say 4 gal.). I took it home and fired it up with no problem. I ran it for about 10 minutes, and I thought the heat yield was good, but again the ambient temp was about 63 degrees. I turned it off and left it in the garage. A couple of days later it warmed up into the 70's and I noticed a small amount of fuel had leaked out past the fill cap onto the floor due to temperature expansion. I ran the unit for about an hour, and haven't seen any more fuel spillage. I can't comment yet on how well it heats in subfreezing temps, but I think it'll be just fine.
