Q:I patched a few cracks my roof with 208R Rubberized Wet Patch Black Roof Leak Repair Sealant 0.90 gal. And use some 176 pond patch, A couple weeks ago can I still apply this on top of it?
    by|Apr 15, 2024
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  James, we do not recommend the application of Henry 201 over Henry Pond Patch. You can use Henry 107 Asphalt Emulsion which is the recommended coating for Pond Patch. If you do apply Henry 107 be sure and give the 208R a few day to a week to cure.

Q:Can it be used on a mobile home roof
      by|Apr 10, 2024
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Allen, Henry 201 can be used on a mobile home roof if the roof is metal or roll roofing. Henry 201 is not meant to be used over shingles of any kind. Henry 201 is a solvent based asphaltic roof coating. Henry 201 is used as a protective coating but is black in color. For mobile homes you would be better suited using Henry 555 Fibered Aluminum or Henry 869 Rubberized Aluminum. Both aluminum coatings form a tough, reflective, weathering surface.

Q:what product would you recommend on older rolled asphalt roof?
        by|Mar 6, 2024
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Frank, the right roof coating to use depends on what you want the coating to accomplish. Henry 201 Fibered Black Roof Coating is a re-saturate product that is solvent based. It is a penetrating protective roof coating formulated to provide a tough, durable weather resistant film to protect existing roofs in good condition. If you want to cool the roof or the interior of the structure you can use an acrylic white coating or even an aluminum like Henry 555 or Henry 869 or a silicone roof coating like Henry 887 TropiCool 100% Silicone. Both Henry 869 and Henry 887 are waterproof coatings that have long warranties.

This product was very easy to work with. I would recommend keeping it warm so it covers the square footage advertised. I will definitely use this product again.

Just completed install yesterday on my 700 s.f. low slope porch roof, applying over older roll applied asphalt roofing. A few tips on install for those thinking about doing this; don't even think you can roll-apply it. Use a roofing brush, and make sure you're prepared for a work out, this stuff is THICK. Applying in direct sunlight to a dark surface helped immensely, as the warmer the surface is the more spreadable the material is. There was a noticeable difference in ease of application in areas in full shade - v - full sun. Once it flashed off and dried, looks very uniform with little apparent shrinkage. We'll see how it holds up, but first impressions are pretty good for a day's worth of effort and $120 worth of product and materials (especially versus hiring a roofer to lay down a new membrane).

            Works well once applied
It was very messy to apply and remained sticky for two full days. Once it dried however, it was very consistent and the fibers bonded together to create a solid surface. It is a chore getting it applied, but I did it in damp, 60 degree weather. It is an easy way to prolong the life of your flat roof.

Great to see that Henry 201 did the job for you. Henry 201 is a fibered solvent based roof coating formulated to provide a tough, durable, weather resistant film to protect existing roofs in good condition. However, if you have leaks you should address the leaks with a Henry leak stopper such as Henry 204 prior to the application of Henry 201. Thank you for putting your trust in the Henry Co and the Home Depot.

Scott, Henry 201 Fibered Black Roof Coating is a re-saturate type of product that takes the place of "hot tar". Henry 201 is a solvent based asphalt roof coating that is penetrating and provides a protective tough, durable, weather resistant film for roofs in good condition. I’m using this to paint the top of the joists on my new deck. (instead of joist tape) and it is working exceptionally well.

Too viscous to work with, except in certain temperatures ??

Response from Henry CompanyMar 28, 2024
113 Michael, if the weather is cold you need to keep Henry 201 in a heated room until ready to use since the coating will thicken in cold weather. Henry 201 is designed to be used in colder weather than asphalt emulsions. When temperatures are below 60 degrees the product needs to be kept in a heated room for 24 hours. Thank you for putting your trust in the Henry Co and the Home Depot.
