Questions & Answers

I put this down yesterday on a concrete well cap .now im going to mix up a “parking deck” deck type of mortar mix sealant and pour over it.. any reason I can’t or should not?

1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Ronn, Henry 201 isn't meant for this type of application. The mortar mix likely wouldn't adhere correctly to the coating. Thank you.

When you use this product will dry so you can stand on the roof without it being sticky

    Answer This Question

Dave, we do not recommend walking on a roof coated with Henry 201 for at least 3 to 4 months. This is a slow cure product that takes about 90 days or so to release the solvents in the system.

          Answer This Question

John, we do not recommend the application of Henry 201 Fibered Black Asphalt Roof Coating to wood. Henry 201 is designed to be applied to actual roofing materials such as composition, smooth surface or cap sheet or metal and only on flat roofs.

            Answer This Question

Foxx, you can use Henry 201 Fibered Black Asphalt Roof Coating on roll roofing. Henry 201 is a penetrating protective coating that is formulated to provide a tough durable, weather-resistant film to protect existing roofs in good condition. Be aware that this coating takes about 3 to 4 months to cure completely so you shouldn't walk on the roof after coating in order to avoid tracking. Do not apply if the roof slope is greater than 2" in 12" (a 2/12 pitch).

              Answer This Question

                1 Answer |
                Answer This Question

RiGri, Henry 201 Fibered Black Asphalt Roof Coating should be applied with a commercial spray rig or a roofing brush. The coating is a penetrating protective product, so a brush or spray application helps push the coating into the pinholes and tiny cracks. You need to be careful to not over-apply Henry 201 which should be applied at the rate of 1.5 to 2 gallons per 100 square feet.

                  Great Product when used correctly
Used this product on a roof where mop down with a torch down on it failed due to water. after removing the torch down the mop down had disintegrated into a dust. Due to circumstances we used this product on top of the felt to cover the roof. It worked as a covering until we could have a cold based product was installed over it. This worked out really well. The product must be mixed and if its cold out you must allow the pails to warm up for 2 days inside a heated space otherwise application area is reduced substantially

Henry 201 was created to take the place of the old and dangerous "hot tar" systems and can be used in colder weather than normal asphalt emulsions. The Can Was 20 oz. Short.
I saw the reviews that said the cans were not full. These are not isolated incidents. When I was at the store to buy this, I noticed none of the cans seemed full. I checked 6 or so and couldn't tell any difference. I picked one and checked out. When I opened the can, I was surprised how much was missing. I actually measured it so I could calculate the amount. The can says it has .9 gallon; that is 115.2 oz. The can I bought had 93.9 oz. $0.14 per oz, is $2.80 of product I didn't receive.

Just completed install yesterday on my 700 s.f. low slope porch roof, applying over older roll applied asphalt roofing. A few tips on install for those thinking about doing this; don't even think you can roll-apply it. Use a roofing brush, and make sure you're prepared for a work out, this stuff is THICK. Applying in direct sunlight to a dark surface helped immensely, as the warmer the surface is the more spreadable the material is. There was a noticeable difference in ease of application in areas in full shade - v - full sun. Once it flashed off and dried, looks very uniform with little apparent shrinkage. We'll see how it holds up, but first impressions are pretty good for a day's worth of effort and $120 worth of product and materials (especially versus hiring a roofer to lay down a new membrane).

                        Works well once applied
It was very messy to apply and remained sticky for two full days. Once it dried however, it was very consistent and the fibers bonded together to create a solid surface. It is a chore getting it applied, but I did it in damp, 60 degree weather. It is an easy way to prolong the life of your flat roof.
