can I pour this over a floor that has been painted with drylock?

Asked by dk January 19, 2021

Answer

Dear Valued Home Depot Customer, We have reached out to the manufacturer and their reply is, PREPARATION: SUBFLOOR PREPARATION (for a successful installation): All subfloors must be clean, sound, solid, completely dry and free of all contaminants. Subfloors must be prepared by mechanical means. Do not use acid, solvents or other chemicals. INSTRUCTIONS: For Concrete, Concrete Terrazzo, or Burnished Concrete: Terrazzo and burnished, steel-troweled or otherwise extremely smooth concrete with a glass-like finish must be mechanically roughened prior to priming. Shake well, and then mix HENRY 554 LevelPro Primer 1:1 with water. Apply with a soft bristle push broom. DO NOT USE A PAINT ROLLER! Cover the entire subfloor to receive underlayment. Do not leave any bare spots. Do not allow product to puddle. Allow primer to dry to a clear thin film (3 hrs. min., 24 hrs. max.). Extremely fast drying or low primer coverage may indicate highly absorbent or porous concrete. In this case, apply a first coat of primer diluted with 3 parts of water. Allow this coat to fully dry, then re-prime with a second coat of primer diluted 1:1 with water. Allow the second coat to dry completely (3 hrs. min., 24 hrs. max.) before leveling.

Solidified in bottle
Have used multiple floor primers in past with no issues. Bought Henry 554 Primer due to requirement for Henry 555 Self-Leveling Unferlayment. Don’t luve close to Home Depot so not easy for me to just jump in car and go down the street to buy new bottle or exchange. When openend and tried to start pouring, noted it wasn’t pouring, just dribbling. Looking into opening and noticed clog. Tried to take out but wouldn’t come out, so had to push back into bottle. After fighting for what seemed like forever, finally cut open bottle to find that over half the primer was solidified. Had just opened the bottle within minutes of using it. Manufacturing date on bottle states 5/18/18. Not pleased at all. Waste if money as half the bottle is useless!

Works great. Used full strength on 100sqft OSB and didn’t even use a full bottle. Prep for liquid backer board over heated floor mat. Sealed cracks with 549 feather touch up first.

Used 554 to prep concrete for 555. Coverage area was right on target or maybe even a little better. One bottle at 1:1 ratio more than covered a 150 sq ft area. Recommend.
