Product Details

Henry 555 aluminum roof coating is an ultra-premium fibered aluminum roof coating that forms a shiny, tough, reflective surface. It can decrease heating and air conditioning costs and keeps the inside temperature of a building up to 20 degree F cooler in summer. This coating is designed for use on the roofs of barns, homes, garages and mobile homes.
  • Seals hairline cracks and pinholes to help increase water resistance of the roof and prevents leaks
  • 7-year warranty
  • For metal, smooth or mineral surface roll roofing, SBS and APP modified roofing, and evaporative coolers
  • Over brushing will interfere with leafing action of the aluminum, so apply to a dry surface, application to a damp surface will cause this product to appear brown
  • Mechanically mix thoroughly before and during application, apply with a good quality soft-bristled brush or commercial-grade spray equipment, apply liberally brushing in 1 direction only and do not lap

Q:Can this be applied in winter.
by|Nov 22, 2023
1 Answer
Answer This Question

A:  Frank, to apply Henry 555 Fibered Aluminum you need temperatures above 40 degrees and no threat of rain for at least 12 hours. Low temperature and high humidity may require longer drying time.

Q:Can 555 roof coating be used alongside 558? I have 10 gallons of 555, but can’t get more in my state, and need 20 gallons. Could I use 555 for half & 558 for the other half? Is there a minimum cure time between applications of each product?
    by|Nov 18, 2023
    1 Answer
    Answer This Question

A:  John, the two aluminum coatings are quite a bit different. Henry 555 is a solvent based system that can be applied at temps as low as 40 degrees. Henry 558 is a water based system and can only be applied at temperatures above 50 degrees day and night for at least 24 hours and where there is no threat of rain for 24 to 48 hours. You probably could apply both types of aluminum coating on your roof as long as you let the 555 cure for at least 30 days before coating next to the 555 with 558.

Q:Can this product be used on a 3 inch riser pan roof to prevent condensation?
      by|Nov 13, 2023
      1 Answer
      Answer This Question

A:  Dale, Henry 555 fibered Aluminum is not a product that will prevent condensation. Condensation occurs when warm damp air comes in contact with cold air. Unfortunately Henry 555 will not work for your issue.

Q:Can you use Tropi-cool roof repair prior to using the fibered aluminum roof coating? Will it stick to the roof repair since it is silicone?
        by|Oct 31, 2023
        1 Answer
        Answer This Question

A:  Teresa, if you are going to coat your roof with a solvent based product like Henry 555 Fibered Aluminum you will need to use a repair product like Henry 208R or 209XR. You will need to let the patched areas cure for at least 30 days prior to coating over them with Henry 555. TropiCool should not be used with Henry 555 as the two products are incompatible.

Used on a residential shingle roof despite the instructions saying not to, it worked out great. Reduced indoor temperatures by 3 to 4 degrees. Don't stretch the 50 sq ft per gallon instructions on shingle though, it takes a lot of paint to soak into the granules of the shingles. Make sure to get your HOA approval in advance though like I did because it is a very non-standard appearance. It will look almost white in daylight.

Response from Henry CompanySep 22, 2023
Nicholas, although we are happy that you liked how well Henry 555 Fibered Aluminum looked on your shingles, we do not recommend or warranty that application. The curing process for Henry 555 is the slow "gassing off" of the solvents in the aluminum coating. As the solvents release this often causes shrinkage of the coating on the surface and a small area such as an aged shingle can experience curling at the edges or cracking. For that reason we never recommend the application of Henry 555 on a shingled roof. Thank you for your comments.

            Good coverage
The mixing with a paint paddle (provided) was a time consuming task but once mixed the coating went on easily and provided an excellent protective coating for the roof.

Hamrdul, you are right that it does take a while to mix Henry 555 with a paint stick. The best way to mix it is with a drill and a paint paddle. The bucket should be mixed at regular intervals as you are coating the roof. Henry 555 forms a tough, reflective, weathering surface and can help cut down on air conditioning costs by reducing heat transfer through the roof. Thank you for putting your trust in the Henry Co and the Home Depot.

you will see alot of brush strokes, wont be as flat as original roof
Ive had to become a expert on this stuff in the past week since there is really no videos or closeup pictures of this stuff. I have never had a metal roof until now. My roof is solid, but has alot of rust spots. first ill state the obvious of what everyone else said, your going to have to mix the heck out of this crap. with about 1,700 sq ft inside it took 5 of the 5 gallon buckets. i think 6 would of been better. this stuff goes on as a light silver, so light that it almost looks white. a few others have stated that as well. for me that matched my house decent so it wasnt a big deal. just be prepared for that. make sure to get fibered. the non fibered does almost nothing but make your house sellable. this stuff goes on pretty thick and it is a mess. this can easily destroy your gutters. if its on to thick it takes forever to dry. 4 days have past and some spots where it dripped into a glob on the roof are still soft. if you were to step on them it would not look good. give it alot of time to dry. start setting up early and try to stop around 2 or 3. you dont want nighttime moisture ruining everything and causing runs. its best to skip rain days or even slight chance of rain pressure wash your roof! i read alot of people say prep rust spots by sanding. we power washed all the grit off from trees and this also took off the loose old coating from 12 yrs ago the previous owners had and some of the flaking. the previous owners had got water on their application and it dried into what looked like a dry desert and it couldnt be scraped off. when we went over their mistake it still looked a bit shoddy. so if you mess up that messup could be there forever my biggest gripe is the brush strokes. this did not look as smooth as i thought it would. i went around looking at other metal roofs and they all looked smooth. even my old coat looked smooth but i suspect it must of been non fiber. this stuff you will notice the brush strokes from up to at least 5 houses away. if you want to show off your new paint job, people will say why is there so many brush strokes? as much as you try to avoid it there seems to always be thin spots in every few panels. this stuff is really messy and being on peaks and high peaks your going to have a tough time but i dont think there is a better alternative. i only seen one closeup of a roller pic and even that has its disadvantage of less strokes but more of a texture loook. i dont know how you could roll this stuff on being thick and droopy. because of the color being a white silver, the thinner spots stand out as darker. there is also sometimes i can see a spot but i look at it from a different angle and dont see it. it is a bit reflective which is nice but it can drive you batcrazy. ive read it should be mixed every 5 minutes to keep the fibers afloat. i dont know how you could possibly keep mixing this stuff on sloped roofs because the hotter it is the faster it dries.60-70 degrees is what we worked with and if its hotter then that my guess would be it would start drying alot faster which could either be positive or negative depending on the workers. when i look back on the coat it had before i didnt really see any brush strokes. im not sure if thats because it was thin, non fibered, a different brand or what. the thickness in the brush strokes seems like a heavy coverage which is good, but visually it was a bit of a shock ill have to get over. you will def have some dark spots from the paint not going on thick enough and maybe the darker roof underneath or maybe its the darker rust spots i dont know. maybe it was the person applying it. i didnt really have any holes to seal so im not sure about that. i suppose if you pack it into small holes it can possibly seal it.

Hi TheMightyBeavis-thanks for all the comments and the great insights. You are correct that the Fibered Aluminum is thicker than the Non-Fibered Aluminum; that Roof Prep is key; and that this stuff can get messy! With Fibered Aluminum you can see some brush strokes. This is why we encourage mixing product so often to keep the aluminum fibers and asphalt base together. We do offer another aluminum product that is Rubberized and has more finer aluminum fibers that offer a smoother finish. Here is a link to our Henry 869 Rubberized Aluminum Coating: https://henry.com/retail/aluminum-roof-coatings/869-rubberized-aluminum-roof-coating
Another cause for brush strokes and seeing dark spots under coating could be lighter coverage rate. Typically with our Aluminum Coatings, we recommend covering at about 250 sq ft per 4.75 gal bucket. For a project with 1,700 sq ft, we would recommend 7 buckets to cover the roof at the right thickness and possibly minimize the brush strokes. Please email rroberts@henry.com or contact our product support at 800-523-0268 to give us more details about your project so we can try to help find a solution.

I coated our 400sq ft corrugated aluminum patio cover to cover some leaks and reduce heat. It is thick and brilliant silver almost like mercury. Be sure and have a stiring blade for a drill. When you open the can it looks bronze and watery and the bottom of the can is like a clump of solid mud. Stir well it will turn brilliant silver almost white. And keep stiring during application or the solids will settle. Mission accomplished no more leaks and much cooler to be under.

Two of us spread product with 1 & 1/2 inch nap paint rollers on a 5000 sq foot 15 year old flat roof. . We pressured was roof lightly 2 days before and made sure roof was dry before spreading Henry Fibered Aluminum Roof Coating. Laid it on as thick as possible through-out roof but mostly on all seams. It took us a total of 8 hours to mix and spread a total of 64.125 gallons of Henry's Aluminum roof coating- 13.5 buckets.
