If this product doesn’t stop leaks what Henry product that you can spray or paint on the roof does?
        ByOct 17, 2025
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

Rich, roof leaks need to be addressed and repaired with a thick product like Henry 204, 208, 208R or Henry 209XR. They are all designed to repair roof leaks. We do not manufacture a coating that stops leaks on roofs especially shingled roofs.

One of the images for the product says it will make the roof look new again but I don’t see that claim anywhere else. Is this true? If so, how does it do that?

          Answer This Question

Matt, Henry 812 RoofSaver Clear Sealer Shingle Roof Coating is designed to be applied to aged shingles and stays clear over time. Since it is a clear sealer the roof looks like it is somewhat shiny and not the dull look of old shingles.

            Will this stop leaks
            ByOct 8, 2025
            1 Answer |
            Answer This Question

Gary, Henry 812 RoofSaver is not a leak stopper. Henry 812 is designed to extend the life of aged shingles by locking in the granules and reducing further granule loss on the shingles. The granules are the shingles first line of defense against the harmful and damaging sun's UV rays. Henry 812 can extend the life of your shingles for up to 5 years.

Mike, Henry 812 is a sealant that helps hold the granules onto the shingles and makes them a bit more moisture resistant so that the shingles can last up to 5 years longer. Henry 812 does NOT protect the shingles from leaks.

This sealer is not a simple application.
Absolute junk 3 days later Twice as much sealer as calculated 3 sisters later Up and down ladder to roof 30times Constant clogs on every sprayer 1/2 nap roller didn’t work Sealer has chunks in every can Had to use paint strainer Purchased a $700 sprayer to apply it and that clogged too. 3 gallons wasted 1/3rd the coverage rate they say Absolute waste of time and money

B1978, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience that this product caused you. This sounds like the product may have stayed on the shelf too long or missed being rotated. We would appreciate it if you could reach out to us directly at productsupport@henry.com and let us know the location of your purchase and so we can discuss your issue in more detail. Thank you for your comments and we look forward to hearing from you.
Got a brand new sprayer and sealer clogged it after a quart or so under full pressure. Used a small roller to apply as a standard size roller doesn't get sealant into ridges and seams of architecture shingles. Description says 200 square feet coverage on a smooth surface. Shingles aren't smooth so it's half of that. So review is marked down because description is misleading on two counts. Does make shingles look newer.

Kevin, Henry 812 RoofSaver is designed to be applied lightly to the surface of the shingles in order to prevent the granule loss that older shingles experience. Henry 812 prevents further granule loss and protects the old shingles from ice, wind, sun, rain and snow. Henry 812 was formulated to extend the service life of old shingles for up to 5 years. Thank you for putting your trust in the Henry Co and the Home Depot.

The product permanently colored my roof brown.
The product is advertised to dry clear. I applied 6 cans with a sprayer and after it dried my homes former white roof is now several shades of white, grey and brown. I contacted Henry, sent pictures and information and Henry takes no responsibility for the malfunction of their product. I will have to replace the shingles to restore my homes roof.

Bill, we are sorry to hear about your experience with Henry 812 RoofSaver. Henry 812 is an opaque color prior to it's application on the roof and dries to a clear finish. After looking for your complaint with Product Support I cannot find a complaint that was registered. All complaints are assigned a field inspection report with a corresponding assignment number that is fairly detailed. If you can supply us with the report number it would be easier for us to look into this matter. Please reach out to me at jszymanski@henry.com as soon as it is convenient for you to do so. We appreciate your comments.

                      Applying this product
Just put another 4 gal. On with a pump sprayer (dewalt 2 gal). Strained it with a paint cloth strainer had zero problems. When I first put it on (9 gal) I couldn't get thru 1 gal with it clogging up the sprayer I used the dewalt 2 gal and used the the brass tip and screwed it down all the way and kept it pumped to the max, worked great

Rodney, it sounds like you found the solution for applying Henry 812 that worked for you. Henry 812 can be applied with a pump sprayer as long as the pressure is kept at the maximum and the tip is periodically dipped in a container of water to prevent it from clogging. Thank you for putting your trust in the Henry Co and the Home Depot.

                        Appling this
This stuff was is very thick but the best way I found is with a quality pump sprayer I use the dewalt 2 gal. The secret you HAVE to stain this stuff when you putting it in the pump, or it will clog it up, it looks like it going to work time will tell, the 200 sq ft was spot on.

Rodney, Henry 812 is a little thicker than water and normally does not need to be strained. Granted it is easier to apply with a paint sprayer but it can be applied using an pump up sprayer as long as the pressure is kept high and the tip is periodically dipped in water to keep it from clogging. Thank you for putting your trust in the Henry Co and the Home Depot.

Looks like it will be a good product
This stuff is VERY thick. I purchased a good quality sprayer with some fan tips. I sprayed the first gallon without much trouble. I had a container of hot water that I kept swishing the sprayer tip in. By the third gallon it would hardly spray. I got through that batch and called it quits for the day after covering about 500sq ft. I took the sprayer apart and there was a filter in the handle that was completely clogged. I will spray the next batch without the filter and see how it goes. After it was dry, you can see a nice clear coat over the gravel, well locked in.

Chuck, Henry 812 should have a consistency that is just slightly thicker than water. You may have purchased some product that was missed in it's normal rotation and sat on the shelf for a period that was longer than expected. We are happy to see that you were pretty satisfied with the results though. Thank you for putting your trust in the Henry Co and the Home Depot.

This is a great product, but i believe its overpriced. It seems to be doing the job for now, time will tell. It did leave the section of my light tan shingled roof that i applies it to darker.

Piper1233, Henry 812 RoofSaver is a unique product that, like you said, "is a great product". There was a great deal of R&D that went into creating a product that can extend the life of a shingled roof. The Home Depot liked the product so much it was listed as one of their top 10 most innovative products of the year and is an exclusive product of Home Depot. Thank you for putting your trust in the Henry Co and the Home Depot.

The true test of this product will be over time, but I'm pleased with Henry's innovation to delay inevitable roof repairs or replacement in problem areas. My application is a shallow valley on a low-pitch porch roof gable, with 35 year-rated shingles that are now 28 years old. The valley collects and traps leaves all year, which shortens roof life. My close up pic here shows the shingle deterioration that has resulted. Henry's approach is to provide a weather seal on the shingle surface that will inhibit leakage and slow aging. It suggests about 200 SF of coverage which seems about right - the 100 SF or so that I treated today used about half the can. I started with a 1/2" nap roller but that didn't cover the low spots nor did it get into the critical tab gaps. I switched to a handheld airless sprayer which atomized the sealer beautifully and applied it in just a couple of minutes. A finely atomized garden sprayer would probably do fine as well. The sealer has the appearance and consistency of milk and needed very little mixing. It cured (became transparent) within 30 minutes and is indeed water repellent after 8 hours. I assume the acrylic latex base will remain flexible for heat expansion. Again, time will tell on whether it lasts. But for the cost and easy application, it's definitely worth a shot.

I regretted acquiring this product the moment I began to open the box it which it arrived. I pulled up one flap and before I could continue my wife started screaming that there was a terrible chemical smell in the house. I immediately whisked it outside to continue, but when I walked back in one half hour later, the house still smelled like the neighborhood around the asphalt plant on 92 st in Manhattan did. DON'T BRING IT IN THE HOUSE IF ANYONE IS SENSITIVE TO THIS KIND OF THING. You see from the second picture that there is a lot of flexibility in application procedures. My roof is only 4 years old, with a 40 year guarantee, but I applied some in a small area (far from my wife) and it went on easily enough. Will it work? I'll get back to you in thirty years. Notice the warning on the can in the picture. I was out of my league to start, and hadn't prepared properly.
