JordanJ, Henry 869 Rubberized Aluminum is a pretty thick product, and, on a slope, it will have a tendency to slump or ooze downward if applied too thick. Henry 869 is not really designed for application to steep roofs, but it can be done. You can apply it with a roof brush or a heavy nap roller. Do not over apply it.
GK76, Henry 869 Rubberized Aluminum should never be applied over shingles. The only product that we have for coating shingles is Henry 812 RoofSaver. Henry 812 is a clear sealer that is formulated to make old shingles last up to 5 years longer by holding the granules onto the shingles and prevent further granule loss. Henry 812 is not a leak stopper or reflective coating.
Patio, Henry 869 Rubberized Aluminum would not be a good product to put over a roof that had a rubber coating over it in the past. Henry 869 contains fairly aggressive solvents in its make-up. You would be better served by applying Henry 817 Roof Guard Urethane Enhanced White Roof Coating or Henry 887 TropiCool 100% Silicone since both of these products are formulated to be applied to a rubber surface.
Alfonso, Henry 869 Rubberized can be applied to an aged metal roof. We suggest that you perform an adhesion test first to see how well it sticks since some metal roofs come from the factory with a thin coating of oil or a clear plastic coating that can cause poor adhesion. Apply a small amount of Henry 869 to several areas and let it sit for 72 hours. Pull up on the test areas and see how well the product adheres.
James, before coating you should use a pressure washer or high-pressure nozzle and water hose to wash the roof with a non-filming detergent such as TSP or TSP substitute. If algae or moss is on the roof spray it with a 50:50 mixture of liquid chlorine and water, apply it with a sprayer and let it dwell for 15 to 20 minutes and rinse thoroughly with low pressure water. Avoid letting the solution dry completely as this may prevent complete rinsing. Give the roof a final rinsing to ensure it is free of all detergent or anything else that could affect adhesion. After the roof is dry use a leaf blower to clear any remaining dust. Make any necessary repairs to seams, holes, cracks, splits with Henry 209XR, 208R, 208 or 204. On metal roofs remove rust by wire brushing.
Nick, Henry 869 and Henry 555 have very different ingredients and the color after they cure is a little different. Henry 555 is asphalt based and Henry 869 is rubber based. The patch area would probably be noticeable
Michael, when applying Henry 869 Rubberized Aluminum you can use a brush or roller. We suggest that you can roll/brush the product up and back but not in odd directions. The reason is that the product will "leaf" correctly which means the aluminum flakes will lay in one direction, so the whole roof reflects the sun in the same way. It is basically an aesthetic thing.
