Pipe thread tape is an odd thing to try to review because it boils down to one thing: does it work? The Hercules Tape Dope works and works well.
It is slightly thicker than most pipe tape I've handled so it requires less wraps and is a little easier to handle. At 500" it will be quite a while before I need to purchase more. It has a clean break and doesn't shred like many I've used.
Hercules Pipe Dope can be used on pipes carrying acids, solvents, alkalis, steam, hot and cold water, lp gas, natural gas, oxygen and almost every chemical. I think this feature is becoming commonplace to most pipe thread available but this is clearly stated on the package leaving little to question.

thread sealant tape seems simple, most use Teflon tape for everything not realizing that you are NOT supposed to use white Teflon tape on Gas lines. This product looks like Teflon tape however it is not recommended use is anything that needs sealant on the threads INCLUDING GAS lines. the product is a little thicker than standard T-tape & does not rip off quite as easily. other than that application is the same. a great product for DIY if you want to have that one thing that works for all

The last plumbing tape you'll need.
I received the Hercules Tape Dope while in the middle of plumbing a gas line for a heater in the barn. Being in the middle of the job meant that I could do a side-by-side comparison. Hands down, the Hercules Tape Dope was far superior than the yellow tape I was using for the gas line connections. The most obvious difference was the thickness of this Tape Dope. It was noticeably thicker than the yellow gas tape I had stated with on this job. It took far less wraps to create a non-leaking seal.
The next project was placing ends onto an air hose. I had the same results, used less tape and it sealed perfectly. As the final test on the propane gas line, I used soap bubbles to check all of the connections. All were perfect.
Final thoughts, there actually is a difference in tape dope. I liked that the Hercules Tape Dope was thicker than others I used and also that it is multi-use. It can be used for air, gas, or water.

Tape Dope is an heavy commercial grade plumber’s tape. Unlike traditional plumber’s tape Tape Dope is much thicker. It does not take multiple twists around the threaded male end of a pipe. With Tape Dope you wrap a single twist and extend the end or overlap by 1/2 inch, stretch, and break the tape. Rated to withstand extreme heat and pressure up to 10,000 per square inch. Each roll has 500 feet of tape which will last through numerous jobs.

The 1/2 inch X 500 inch tape dope is the way to go with plumbing. The tape is much thicker than the more common pipe tape. It takes fewer wraps on the pipe. The tape dope is good for all plumbing applications ( gas, oxygen, industrial, and water). I don't think I would use it for air conditioning fittings. The tape dope will withstand extreme temperatures and pressures up to 10,000 psi. I will have a couple rolls of this tape dope in my tool box from now on. I think once you try it you will be hooked on it.
