This toy chainsaw is cute and realistic in size and color. Not all batteries work on it as it has small springs inside that make it difficult for some reusable batteries to be used. My son especially likes that in addition to making a real chainsaw noise, it has a "real" (rubber) chain. This makes it very realistic and fun for his imaginative play.

This toy chain saw runs on 3 AAA batteries (which are not included) and makes sounds and spins like a real one. After we spent a minute or so explaining how it worked to our grandson (turn it on, pull the lever and push the button to get it to work), he took it over. The first thing he tried to do was to saw our bedroom door in two. Good thing it wasn't real. He knew what it was and expected to make better progress. It was a fun toy and joined another battery-operated tool that we have, so that both grandkids can play at the same time. It was a fun toy and is for children over three but I think the interest level will top out at age five or six. At that point, kids will want something a little bit heavier. For our use, it's perfect and will stop the battle over who gets the battery-operated tool during each visit.

My three year old got a kick out of a set of play law tools we got from Home Depot awhile back. I've used a simple chainsaw mill a few times in the last year to slab some wood and he was very intrigued. So when I saw this I knew he'd dig it. It's certainly the best toy "tool" I'm come across so far. The on/off switch is an actual metal toggle. You then have to "pull start" it before engaging the trigger, safety and all. The sound effects are cool and the rubber chain is pretty neat. If play tools are an interest for your little one's they'll likely enjoy this quite a bit!

Ah! I wanted to love this toy. I love how it looks, if/when you get it started, it's super cute. However, starting it is a problem. In fact, sometimes it won't start at all. We can't figure out why. Sometimes it takes 2, 3, 4 minutes of trying over and over again, until it finally starts. Also, the way you start it is to pull a tab, but that tab is really hard to get a grip on and pull up, especially for a child. Overall, cute toy to look at, but not functional at all. It sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. And even if you CAN get it to work, it cuts off and has a hard time starting again. Huge bummer. (see video)

Our youngest grandson will be four years old in exactly a month, and we are pretty certain this little item will be a big hit for his birthday. It runs on three AA batteries and duplicates the sounds of an actual chainsaw, including the pull start and the engine running. The 'chain' also goes around like the real thing, but the boy may be a little disappointed that it doesn't actually cut. We on the other hand, are not...

This is the cutest toy. I ordered it because I thought my boys would get a kick out of having a chainsaw that looked and sounded like mine. Not only does it look and sound like a (mini) chainsaw, but it operates like one (except for the actual cutting!). It’s good training for safety with power tools. First you need to use the metal switch to turn on the saw, then pull the pull cord to start it (and it will make an engine starting noise), then the orange safety button must be held down before pressing the button to get the chain moving on the saw part. It sounds a little complicated but even my three year old got the hang of it after one demonstration. My boys have loved playing with it and I think it’s a great gift idea.

Great for future DIYers to get started. Perfect gift for those little boys (or girls) that want to "make" stuff. The sound isn't loud, but good enough that they think they are doing something. They can go outside with the adults and start building their own projects, with a little imagination. Very light. Perfect size for tots small hands and arms.

This toy chainsaw has a realistic sound, a loud hum. There is an on/off switch, and then you pull the cord and it starts. The saw has a rotary chain (not sharp). This will be a nice toy for when my nephews boys come over to visit, since their fathers are very handy and have tons of tools themselves It is made of lightweight plastic and requires three AA batteries, not included.

TOO REALISTIC — The Pretend Play Toy Chainsaw by Hey. Play. looks like a miniature version of a real chain saw. To start the chainsaw you need to flip the switch and then pull the pull cord; it makes noise and then you can pull the trigger to make the rubber chain go around. When it works it is a great toy. Unfortunately, it works like many chainsaws - unreliable and difficult to start. After inserting batteries I was only able to make the chain go around about 1/3 of the time; the pull cord made noise about 2/3 of the time. I am hesitant about giving it to my grandson because it might be more frustrating than fun.

Doesn't work. Arrived in a too large cardboard box, with only a plastic bag around it. No padding, no styrofoam, and no product box or anything to even make it seem as though it was brand new. So it wasn't really a surprise, when I installed batteries, and nothing happened. To top things off, it's actually really small, see pictures next to an 8.5"x11" piece of paper. It's certainly too small, proportion-wise for my 4 year-old (3'8"), and it looks a better size for my 1 year-old (33"). The pull cord isn't really a pull cord, because it only moves maybe a 1/2". I can't speak to the realistic sounds or moving chain, as it doesn't do anything. I will say that the rotating chain is more rubber than plastic, but it certainly doesn't move. Already tried to toss it, but my four-year-old was too sad, so I'll have to wait until she's asleep.
