18 in. Steel Planter Hanging Hook Kit

I was waiting until after winter to see how the hooks faired and was prepared to leave a 5 star review until about a month ago. The hooks were sturdy and didn't budge during several bouts of high, sustained winds and lots of snow and ice. However, about a month ago, I was refilling my feeders and saw two spots on one of the hooks that was missing the coating and appeared rusty. Other than that, I would recommend them and plan on buying at least two more for the other side of my deck.

I had planned to install this on the balusters on my wooden deck, but I hadn’t realized that the balusters were spaced 7.5” on center rather than the required 4”. So this deck railing hook kit, which is meant to be on balusters spaced no more than 6” apart, won’t work. Bummer. I do expect to replace and upgrade the railing system on my deck later this summer, so all is not lost. The railing hook is a clever design and although there is no weigh limit listed in the specifications, I do believe it is capable of supporting a heavy planter or basket. Made in Taiwan.

This is a great deck hook!! The metal is strong and solid. We chose to install this on our deck which we will use for a bird feeder or a hanging plant in the summer. We used the you-tube video, which was recommended in the directions to help simplify, as it was taking a bit to figure out how to install! The video was very helpful and after watching it my husband installed it in 5 minutes! The rail measures approx. 6 1/4" w x 1 3/4" H x 3/4" thick. It fits between 3 1/2" space. The pole is about 16" long before curving for the hook and is about 1/4" thick.

This 18-in. steel planter hanging hook kit is a must have for those who would like to hang a plant outside during the spring and summer months. The kit includes all the parts necessary to attach the hanger hook to a wrought iron or wood railing. The instructions are well-written and illustrated. The HOLD IT MATE 18 INCH STEEL PLANTER HANGING HOOK KIT IN BLACK is a Cleaver Rail Hanging Hook. This Hold it Mate system accessory rail for decks requires no additional tools or hardware. This kit contains several lengths of screws and contains a special tool to tighten the bracket and an 18 inch steel hook that attaches to the rail bracket. I attached this hook to my metal fence by the back door. I like this kit and definitely do recommend this product.

This is a great and complete kit to enable you to have hanging plants off of your deck without drilling any holes. This kit is very flexible and is designed to fit deck railings from 1/2" to 1 3/4" wide. This range covers most standard railing sizes. I was a little worried since I know my spindles are on the wider side, but this worked fine. There are two 6" mounting rails that are tightened onto two vertical spindles. The kit includes 3 different size screws. Once the mounting rails are in place you tighten the screw with the included allen wrench. Once the mounting rails are tight, you clip on the 18" extension hook. There is a black cap to cover the screw end. This will be perfect for hanging a floral basket once the weather gets warmer.

...Or any number of things! A pot full of flowers, a bird feeder, secure and simple to mount! I love a 'system', and having tried a good number of hooks over my 40 years of living here, this is the best one, hands down. Even if your deck is somewhat unconventional, say the pickets aren't spaced to specifications, this system will work! Could not be easier, or more secure. Even a round water dish, with the model that has a round support...could be a great way to offer the birds fresh water. No drilling, no measuring, no power tools, mount by hand. A nearly perfect product for mounting!

Hold It Mate Deck Railing Hook Kit - a Home Depot Seeds Program Review I put lots of plants out on the deck in the summer. The ones I have in sitting pots and planters always leave stains and marks on the wood so I’d prefer hanging them. I got this Hold It Mate Deck Railing Kit to see how it would hold a hanging plant. It’s a great idea! The kit consists of two 6-inch steel blocks with appropriate holes and bolts to fit nearly all decks. The blocks sandwich two balusters between them and are tightened with the appropriate bolt drawing them together. Once mounted, the plant hanger attachment I got just hooks onto one of the steel blocks, held in place by gravity. The blocks will attach to any deck material like wood, steel or Trex as long as the balusters are 5 inches or less apart. The code for many places would require that distance and usually they’re spaced at 4 inches. The concept is incredibly simple and effective. Installation was so easy that I went to the company’s website to see their video, thinking I must have done it wrong. Once the blocks are mounted to the balusters, you can hang the attachment toward the inside, outside or both sides of the deck. No screws or other fasteners are used that would damage the decking material in any way. These blocks mount to any type There are several attachments available like the plant hanger I got, a bird feeder hanger, round pot holder and several planter box attachments. The planter box attachments require a longer steel bar on one side of the deck with two 6-inch bars on the other side. Long ago I had a planter permanently attached to the outside of my deck. Over time, the weight of the wet soil torqued the railing out, causing a bow in the top railing requiring an expensive fix. The Hold It Mate Deck Railing System solves that problem by putting all of the stress weight on the balusters. If you put hanging plants or planters on both sides of the deck, equally distributing weight straight down. In the unlikely event that weight on one side alone causes bowing, the damage would be to two balusters at most. This Hold It Mate Deck Railing Hook Kit is great! It installs so easily and quickly I thought I had done it wrong. It doesn’t damage the decking material at all and should prevent any bowing of the deck due to the weight of the pots. The pots on the system will no longer stain or mark my deck. There are several different attachments available that I know I’m going to have to get. This is the kind of product I wish I had invented.

As we get closer to Spring my wife is getting the outside of our house ready for gardening and everything nature that visits our deck and garden. This includes plants to attract butterflies and hummingbirds. For her recent birthday our daughter gave her a beautiful glass hummingbird feeder that she wants to hang from our deck so she can easily take photos of our visitors. This planter hanging hook will serve that purpose perfectly. Very easy to mount on our PVC deck railing. Comes with necessary wrench, screws, mounting plates and easy to attach hook. Took all of five minutes to mount, tighten and attach the hook.
