These mud trays, make wonderful windowsill planters! Purchased a dozen of these, over time. The metal strip, is easily removed and holes are easily burned in the bottom, with a hole punch, heated over a gas range. A drill can also be used, but I prefer burning, to prevent accidental cracking of the tray..
I use one to plant in and one underneath, as a drip tray. Also can be adapted, to self water, with cotton wicks. So glad I found these!

It is adequate but I don't recommend because they are a pain to clean. Mud gets in around the me...
It is adequate but I don't recommend because they are a pain to clean. Mud gets in around the metal rails, and is hard to scrape out. Plastic bows and sways again making it hard to scrape clean. Remember, half the frustration of dry wall finish is cleaning up after every application. And it has to be clean at the start, or else you'll contaminate your batch with little dried pieces, from the time before. They'll ruin everything.
Be smart, spend your money on a stainless pan, especially if you have anything more than the most trivial job.
