Yes, we apply either a water base primer or oil base primed. Then finish off with a water base semi - gloss paint. at least 2 coats of paint .

How many cans of spray do I need for 560 sq ft room

Asked by: Boat
Depends on if its knockdown or an orange peel. According to the can, on can does 60 sq. ft of texturing if knockdown finish or 80 sp ft if using an orange peel finish. I had some leakage and got far less, if you can get a good seal you may be able to get what the can states.

how do you do the knockdown part of ceiling spray?

none
Asked by: Beachboy
Use the short black straw adapter then spray texture on the ceiling and wait 10 - 15 minutes or until the spray is firming up, then use a trawl and lightly flatten out the tops of the sprayed on product. If this is your first time try doing this in a test piece of drywall before your ceilings. Good Luck!

There are alot of negative reviews on this product for sure, but there is a trick or technique to using this product and I bet if you use this technique your experience will be more positive. First off, it's only the pressure in the can that gets the texture out of the can and smoothly on the ceiling. To that end the texture simply has to be warm, in the area of 60-70 degrees. So set the can out in the sun for an hour before use or if it's a cold day set the can in warm water for awhile. When you get ready to use it, you have to vigorously shake the can for a couple of minutes. There appears to be a metal ball inside and as you shake the can you will faintly hear it bump around, not like a spray paint can and it's metal ball where it rings like a bell , this is more muffled than that. But hearing it at all means you are doing the right thing. The point is to stir up the texture so it is a uniform consistency inside the can, no clogging or clumps. If you use the texture when it's too cold or poorly shaken, it's going to spray out in clumps or clog up the internal nozzle. So do the can prep right. There's not alot of control of texture output, it's all done by the selection of one of two nozzles and how much texture you spray on in one area. If you do get clumping, that is fixable by dabbing , don't wipe, with a paper towel. I use this stuff all the time and certainly a hopper is better, but for a single room, a hopper is just too much set up and mess. For small jobs, this is the best product for putting texture on a ceiling.

I had about a 2' x 2' area of ceiling to texture in a bathroom. The negative reviews almost caused me to pull out my hopper and retexture the entire ceiling. With that said - this product seemed to work exactly as advertised. Yes, it is a mess. Yes, it will drip some - so cover everything. underneath and around. I followed the directions on the can - shook for a good minute. I actually put it in a pot of cool water for about 10 minutes before using. I started with the white knockdown nozzle. I knocked it down after about 7 minutes, LIGHTLY, and let it dry. I followed that up with 2 orange peel black nozzle coats. Letting it dry completely between. Did it match? Close enough. The reality is, it's almost impossible to match texture that has been up for 20 years and painted 3 times. The edges on that texture aren't crisp like new texture. One quick think I did was lightly - emphasize LIGHTLY - go over it with a damp sponge after it was dry to smooth the edges. All in all - this worked exactly as advertised and looks good.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from I hope you like shaking cans Will you need to shake these cans until your arms want to fall off? Yes Do you need to protect EVERY surface in your room? Yes Will you come out looking like you were flocked? Yes Do you need 3-4 times more product than the can advertises? Yes Will it hide a major patch job on a plaster ceiling that had previously been covered by a drop ceiling? It sure will. Definitely worth the extra two cans and the scrubbing in the shower afterwards. Not sure why so many people had such trouble with this, it was a quick learning curve for us. Perhaps they've changed up the formula? I almost didn't buy this after all the poor reviews, but my dad (who was a house painter) insisted it would work. Glad I listened to dad. I suggest you give it a try. Worst that happens is you scrape it off, get your money back, and try a different product.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from ridiculously bad product if you are looking for orange peel the can does not have enough pressure to push out the product hard enough. It spits out big blobs that would be nice for rough popcorn or suitable for knock down but not orange peel. Now the product also dogs from the ceiling and makes a nice mess on your head and shoulders because it is so watery. tried running can under hot water per instructions, not much better. returned the stuff for a refund. the amount paid is exactly the price of a air texture gun. I'm gonna go get one instead of wasting money on these cabs

Rated 1 out of 5 by from AWFUL STUFF This stuff is awful, won't stick to the ceiling now matter how you point it, goes watery as soon as it hits the ceiling.. had more on me and the floor than the ceiling this is "AWFUL STUFF"!!! Everybody should be able to take this back and get a refund!!!!!!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible I read all the reviews but I still bought one. It worked great for the first 5 seconds and that's where the problem started. No matter how much I shook the can it lost all of it's ability to reach over 3 inches. It was like tooth paste coming out. Thought I had a defective can bought another one, same results.
