Q:do you use this dry or wet like a normal knock down knife

Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for contacting PPG. Homax® Knockdown Knife was specifically designed for use in applying knockdown textures. It has a soft edge that floats over the texture and creates a smooth, professional finish without lines. The contoured shape reduces hand fatigue for a more consistent finish. Homax Knockdown Knife simplifies your wall texture repair project, so that you can complete the job quickly and easily. The 7 ½ inch size covers a wide area for more coverage. Constructed of lightweight, easy-to-clean styrene. The knife itself does not need to be wet.

Q:Can this knockdown knife also be used for orange peel texture or is it just for knockdown texture?

      Answer This Question

A:  It depends what you’re wanting to do. I would use a trowel over the knockdown knife for texture, but if you see a need for it, I would try it out. It is really designed to help knock down the texture to create Knockdown.

        Answer This Question

A:  No. It has a soft edge suitable for knocking down texture, not a hard one for scraping.

A:  I suppose that i you wanted to take the time and effort it would work, however Homax makes a popcorn scraper and Home depot carries them. Personally, I would not even entertain the idea because the scraper is easy to use and is fast.

          Versatile tool
This is pretty much a standard knockdown tool for wall and ceiling texture work. But there are some advantages to this one being plastic and foam versus metal. For one, it is lighter and that makes for much less work, especially doing a ceiling. Now we all would prefer a longer tool maybe 2-3 feet long but sometimes the edges need fixing or the quarters are too cramped for a long one. That's when this one comes in handy for touch-up. Another thing makes this better than a metal tool, like the old one I have. You can actually bend the tool slightly to accommodate convex or concave surfaces. Nothing worse that getting a perfect texture in one part of the sweep and a totally excessive one at the edges or center. If you have a concave surface, place your thumb in the center of the back atop the Homax logo and push. This will bow out the edge at the center and make it convex to more closely match the work surface. For convex surfaces, make the tool a bit concave by placing thumb and index finger near the ends of the "T". This is almost impossible to do with my particular metal tool. It takes some practice to do this perfectly, but is worth the initial effort. Of course, some would rightly say the bend-ability can be a weakness on some jobs. So, use a stiffer one for those instances.
