Q:Is this product the same as a similar product formerly sold by Guardsman? I got good results from the Guardsman and don't want to change. Note the Guardsman product left the surface more glossy than it had been and I want to restore uniform glossiness.

Q:Will this work on Dining Table that’s not solid wood but has a sealed top?

A:  We would not recommend it for this use. Please call us at 1-800-441-9695 for more information.

      by|Dec 31, 2019

A:  It depends on what you mean by a "sealed top"; if there are coats of varnish, or lacquer, or shellac on the top. the answer is probably. If by "sealed" you mean plastic, the answer is clearly no. You can remove any finish with the proper technique, but you should try the cloth on an inconspicuous place before trying the damaged area.

A:  I have used this product on my dining room table to remove white spots on the finish. I have not used the product on unsealed surfaces. Seems to me you have nothing to lose by trying the product since it sounds like you will have to sand and re-stain if it doesn't work anyway. Good luck.

        by|Jan 29, 2019

A:  You've got too many problems for a single fix. The best thing to do is strip all the old finish off, and start again. Try using a paint stripper (make sure you wear gloves and a respirator); if that doesn't work, sand all the old finish off, and then refinish the frame to your specific needs.

          by|Jan 30, 2019

A:  Hi Gmiller, as the community answer replied, it would be beneficial to try the cloth. If it removes too much, the ideal process would be to sand and re-stain either way. If you have any further questions as you proceed with your project, give us a call at 1-800-729-9029 between 8am-5pm ET.

A:  This product will probably help and I haven’t ever had it affect the stain on wood while using it. It’s just a tackcloth type rag with some kind of chemical(s) on it. Clean the areas first to keep the rag from getting dirty and help it last longer then just put on a glove and rub it on the affected area. It’s definitely worth a try, especially for how cheap it is!

A:  It might work for the cup ring but I would try Old English Cherry scratch cover first. You might have to special order it as it's not as easy to find as the ones for dark or light wood

                my "Magic Cloth"
I am a professional touch-up and furniture repair technician. I use these all the time and is a staple in my kit. Not only does it remove water rings (I've removed some that had been on antique furniture for decades), but it also works to remove minor scuffing, paint transfer, and finish damaged by plasticizers from little plastic feet on things like electronics. I've never had them fail. It will leave a bit of oily residue that is easily removed. I use naphtha or Guardsman Furniture Polish to do this. The abrasive in this product can also affect the sheen, leaving a fairly glossy surface. My solution to this is either do the whole surface (e.g., an end table top), or follow up with a spritz of touch up lacquer of matching sheen, or rub with an appropriate level abrasive (steel wool, polishing compound, etc.)

                Works as promised!
Amazing product! I even bought one for my mother-in-law. She had a 40 year old mark on her coffee table and was floored that this cloth took the water spot out without damaging the finish.

                Expensive cloth that didn't work
Cost about $10 for one cloth that was soaked in a chemical. Had high hopes that this would remove white heat marks on my solid wood table. Followed directions and applied to the heat stains; nothing happened. Buffed it with a clean cloth and applied again. No removal of the stains. Returned it for a refund. Quite disappointed that it didn't function as advertised. Can't recommend.

                Not worth the money
This item was a total waste of money. It had no effect at all on my white ring.

                Hopefull But Disappointed
After reading the reviews I was hopefull about this product, especially after trying different remedies that didn't work. Sadly this one failed too. It couldn’t even remove a few minor white marks off of a table.

Made only a very small change
There was SOME change from using this product as directed, but nothing impressive. The white rings and splotches are slightly lighter but still very noticeable. I think that this product would work satisfactorily on very minor discoloration, or maybe on other types of finish (it says it's not for use on polyurethane, and I have no idea what sort of finish this table has). For 9 dollars, I think it was worth the gamble, and judging by the other reviews, it clearly works for some people.
