AnswerYes. The cabinet has four drawers. The top two are like desk drawers, suitable for pens, pencils, office supplies etc. The bottom two drawers provide the file cabinet function. Each of the file cabinet drawers has two aluminum rails that install in place for the use of hanging file folders to hang upon. They've included two slots for these rails; one to permit use of letter size hanging files and one to permit legal size hanging files. I like the larger size so when I assembled it I configured both drawers for legal, however you can do each drawer either way depending on your preference.
I love this, but wish it had a natural finish rather than the black. Can this be painted?

Only reason I didn’t rate as 5 stars is one of the drawer pre-drilled holes was crooked, causing the drawer front to crack on the back side.

So, this is pretty much as described. The main body is painted matte black, the top is walnut veneer. It comes disassembled. Most of the wood components are particle board (exception being the four legs which are solid wood). The assembly is typical for this kind of DIY assembly furniture (lots of cam lock nuts and cam screw fasteners, wooden dowels, and wood screws). The rails for the two file folder cabinets can be placed to allow Letter or Legal size hanging file holders. Haven't had it long enough yet to tell you how well it holds up over time.

The product shipped sooner than expected and the driver (he came by himself) was very kind to bring it inside my home on the second floor. It took us (my husband 61 and I 63) approximately 3 hours to put it together and it was very easy. The instructions were easy to understand and every part was securely packed with lots of Styrofoam. I gave it 4 stars only because the product itself is not as good as l was expecting. the finish of the top is laminated very thinly and will probably not withstand much wear and tear.

My recommendation is based on it not being used that often. For a home where it's not going to used to much it should be fine. I doubt it will hold up is a home office or office if it's used regularly.
It looks nice, not to much work to put it together. The instructions are easy to follow. I had one extra screw, not sure if I missed one or I had one extra.
The construction is not all that great, it is mostly made of particle board. Do be careful putting the screws in, it does not take to much strip them. If this were made from pine or poplar it would be higher rated. The paint does chip easily too.
A plus is that it does fit large and small hanging folders. But this is nothing to keep them from spreading open, unless you fill the drawer. And then I would be concerned about the little aluminum bar bending. It's not even close to a metal file cabinet in strength.
There is a lot of packing material, so lots of foam going to the landfill. would be nice if they used some more environmentally friendly packing

The HOME DECORATORS COLLECTION APPLETON 4 DRAWER WHITE AND HAZE WOOD FINISH LATERAL FILE FINISH TOP (41.5 IN. W X 30.5 IN. H), WHITE/HAZE is a very nice piece of furniture. My product arrived undamaged, with easy to follow instructions and all assembling hardware. I chose this nice piece to replace an old style metal vertical file cabinet. I wanted a new style wood lateral file cabinet that would enhance my office space and also allow room for a new printer that I will purchase in the near future. The cabinet was easy to assemble for one person to complete by themselves. The wife was very pleased as well that the old vertical file cabinet would be gone for good. Great product Home Decorators!!!

This is a serious piece of office furniture. It will last a very long time and take a lot of abuse. Made of steel and a bit of laminated wood, the file drawers are smooth and solid and the top is a great place to put a paper cutter, coffee pot other office equipment that you might need to use daily. The thing here is that this is an industrial design and build. It's not fancy, but it's solid and works great.

This lateral file cabinet, while being utilitarian, is a beautiful piece of furniture. I would suggest that you pay a little extra to have it assembled when it comes in if you are not handy at that sort of thing.
