Questions & Answers

Dad bought homlite 26 CC trimer last week only put gas no oil mix, it ran for a while and stopped now it will not start , any ideas

Asked by: Hector
what you have my friend is a classic case of piston melt down that when you run a 2 stroke with straight gas and no oil in the mixture its important to mix oil in with the gas because that only way to lube the engine by design in the end the piston overheated and cause the ring land too melt in turn the results is no compression which is important too design on how 2 stroke operate

I bought this as a replacement for an old weedeater brand that i had for years . This thing works great , easy to start , easy to assemble(read the instructions)and works like a dream . I have an acre of fenced property and was able to do all my weed eating on one tank of gas and I still have not used up all the line that came prespooled(.095 twisted line) with it . It also came with an additional 18ft of line to respool with and the oil for your first mix of gas. It also came with an allen wrench to assemble the 2 piece shaft (be sure not to over tighten) and that also worked like a charm . I am still amazed at how well it is built for only $69 bucks . If it keeps working the way it has so far , I expect I should get years of service out of it . I would suggest when you get ready to buy new line , that you stick with the .095 twisted line . I don't think it would perform very well with standard line , just my thought .

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Edged 4’ This was to replace my featherlite weedeater I had for 12 years. Assymbly and starting is easy. Keeping the line out is horrible. I’ve edged 4’ of sidewalk and the string has sheered off on me 5 times now and manually feeding it back out of the holes...not fun. Thought it could have been the factory string so I put some other in it. Same thing. What I think is happening is the cut-off blade isn’t sharp and rips the end to length. This stresses the line where it comes out of the feeder. Instant weak point, snap. I’m done and returning it.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Spend your money once I purchased this 2 years ago, thinking it would be an affordable option. It was. It woorked for a season, winterized it just fine, used it the next season and it just simply stopped working, no plug issues or gas. Retired it to HD and got a new one. Used it for last season, worked this season for 2 cuts and now it won’t start or work again! I can’t figure out why all of the sudden the unit dies out. It’s basically a throw away trimmer! So now I’m stuck with another non working trimmer. Spend your money once!

The new one operates fine, starts right away, runs as it should. The only complaint is that you can no longer put an optional string head on it, I didn't like the bump trimmer head, so on my old unit I replaced it with a different head that I liked.

When I started trimming with it, the trimmer was a problem because it did not feed string to keep trimming. I followed the instructions in the manual that were vague and the trimmer did not work properly.

I just purchased it last week, and have used it only 1 time for about 15 minutes, but I will say that it starts really easy. The line transfer is really smooth. I like it so far. What happens with more use is something I will have to wait and see.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 6 years and counting!! I have owned this Homelite product for over 6 years and I think I truly qualify for an honest and great review... It has never failed to start, it is light and easy to manouvre and has ample power for my twice a week lawn cutting adventures. The unit comes with the most simple and reliable carburator on the market for the past 40 years (Walbro) and runs strong and smooth, I always add a little extra oil to my mix as a little more is better than not enough! For $90 you can't go wrong! I used to own a $200 STIHL FS36 and it was terrible and cost a fortune to repair and seemed to be very finicky with the mix. One day it would just not start and they told me the magneto was gone and would cost about $90 to repair, I left it on the dealers counter and went to Home Depot and bought this one brand new for the same price as the repair job!! I have never looked back...Thanks Homelite! I give it 4 stars as the process for changing the nylon whip can be tricky.... but once again for $90 I can live with it!
