I is a 26cc two cycle engine. It seems to be just fine for the light trimming it is intended for. It is a curved shaft trimmer so it is not intended for any heavy brush cutting.

can I install my own string line or do I have to buy a precut spool? Thankyou

You can rewind with your own string. Just be sure to use the same size string as it came with. You may have some issues with overlapping hand-wound string when using the auto feed bump functions. I have hand wound many spools successfully, but occasionally, i have to hand pull the line due to an overlap.

What’s the difference between straight shaft and curved shaft ?

Asked by DJM August 25, 2020
1
Answer

Hi Djm, Thanks for your question on the HOMELITE 2-Cycle 26 CC Curved Shaft Gas Trimmer UT33600B. the straight shaft will be longer, which extends the reach. Taller people will enjoy this feature as it will save some back pain with extended use. A curved shaft usually means a shorter shaft. This results in a lighter string trimmer, which can be beneficial for longer jobs. Curved shaft trimmers also tend to feel well-balanced, which helps with maneuverability in close areas. Because of their reduced length and weight, curved shaft trimmers might be the preferred option for shorter folks, as well as people who only have a smaller area to manage. I hope this helps! - Eve

can this weed eater charge head

Asked by Lilna July 28, 2020

You can! I only use the factory head until it is out of string, Then I mount a pivot trim head on it. I can pre cut a bunch of strings for it and simply loop them thru the holes in about 5 seconds each, I usually carry spare strings in my pocket so I don't need to go back to the garage until I'm done trimmimg

where to start
After 45 of priming and pulling it finally started. The sting that came with it is horrible. Constantly curling upwards and getting wrapped around the shaft. Going to try different string tomorrow.

Only one good use out of this weed eater since I bought it. String doesn't last or feed. Very hard to start and once you turn it off, that's it. I'm never able to start it again until days later.

I do not recommend this trimmer! This trimmer works fine until it begins to bog down due to a clogged spark arrestor. The spark arrestor can not be removed and cleaned like most trimmers. It is an integral part of the sealed muffler, and the muffler must be replace when the spark arrestor gets clogged, costing an additional $30+, and that is if you can find the replacement muffler! This is a very poor design that will cost you more in the long run.

I read the reviews and it did truly scare me off of this unit at first to opt for something more expensive and ultimately beyond my needs. Let me start of by saying I went from an electric trimmer to this gas trimmer for my yard. I wanted the freedom of movement and to not get stuck on trees and landscaping when trying to go around the house. Assembly was easy; many complained about shaft falling off, so i wanted to make sure I had this secure. they give you a wrench for the unit, however, it stripped off after the first screw. I have my own and seemingly damaging I was able tighten them all the way down. I am sure they pushed into the the shaft but it did not seem as though it was that difficult to do this; hence why I believe so many had issues with the shaft not staying on. the instructions say tight, however i kept turning with ease until they were flush. The unit does come with a small bottle of ethanol guard oil. I read through several people having issues with their machines after a few uses, and found the root cause to be ethanol damage, and improper mix. I paid 5.97 each on sale when I bought the trimmer for tru fuel 50:1. this is no ethanol 92 octane pre-mixed fuel. on sale the smaller cans are cheaper than buying the big can for the same amount of fuel. Starting- well this was concerning, i had read several that said would not start out of the box. starting quick guide, turned on Choke, primed 10 times, set on ground, hold trigger down and pull chord. third pull it fired and then died. Quick guide says after this step to repeat until it starts. I pulled the chord what felt like 100 times and it would sputter and not start. Re-prime, held trigger, then at end of quick guide says there is slight position in-between choke setting of a and b to help with starting. set choke here, pulled chord twice and started then stopped. So i set the choke to run pulled chord twice, and success running. Complaint here- first there is no guard or rail to protect gas tank on the ground while starting per instructions. Second, they do not tell you about unmarked choke position until end of quick guide. third, loud yes but a little above average for 2-cycle engines. the issue is the clutch stops the head from spinning at idle. however through use i have found if you rev the motor and back off trigger slowly it drops down a notch and rotates the head adequate enough to get around landscaping without going through a whole spool of line breaking on the rocks. I shut it off after it was warm before first use, I wanted to see if it would start quicker afterward. I waited about 20 minutes. This unit is light enough, against instructions, I can hold and pull chord. It started first pull second time around, left choke in run position. coming from an electric unit the trimmer head is large in comparison, I say this because I usually can go around landscaping and driveway sides almost sitting on ground with electric. This one sits much higher, so have to tilt unit at slight angle, just enough to slap the concrete with trimmer line and get the line of grass the mower cant cut. Noisy, well if you have to run at max yes very noisy, tried trigger throttle it seems capable of gearing it down a touch and still functioning. This unit is light enough for me to extend under trees with one hand. Alright after use did not realize how noisy full throttle was until i started mower, my mower seems super quite now. Note: the manual does specifically say to wear EAR and EYE protection while using. I read this and I have them both, I had on sunglasses, but it was 92 degrees, and I figured i am outside using the unit for about 15-25 minutes total. I opted to disregard the instruction for ear protection. about equal to a chainsaw, if i were using for long period or more frequent maybe it would cause permanent damage. But once a week or every other week, i can handle the noise for the price. Besides I usually have earbuds on while cutting the grass anyway, just so happened today I did not. Pro's - cost - super light weight - ease of movement - plenty of power for a yard con's - no rest or guard for gas tank when setting on ground to start - A little loud - starting instructions - put all choke positions at beginning of instructions, or mark them on the unit really make the most sense Overall a 4, for no guard on the gas tank or handle rest while starting. Unit has plenty of power, it is a little loud. 50:1 mix ratio, I used tru fuel, could contribute to its loudness because its 92 octane. unit did not heat up excessively with use, my arm hit it several time during use no burns. String out of the box was wound pretty tight I did have to open trimmer head and free the line. After that worked well bump and go. Guard is a little small for this unit it seems, my pant legs were covered in clippings after use. But I was make sure I wear pants not shorts when I cut grass anyway. through starting and revving the motor and a full use it used less than half a tank of fuel. the liter of true fuel looks like it will fill this about three times. I bough two regardless. in the end, I would have to buy another gas can, keep buying 50:1 ethanol guard oil, and mark the can and store the can. in addition, I know of several gas stations selling E15 as regular fuel as some older classic vehicles can not handle this, they had engine problems. So tru fuel with 0 ethanol seems like logical choice for this one piece of equipment. lawnmower can handle ethanol ok.

I wish i could give this product a negative 5. Every other trimmer that i have ever owned had a collar that held the motor and shaft together. This had 2 hex screws that even after tightening with my cordless drill would not remain tight the shaft fell off several times during use. And while driving from my home to my mothers home became detached and fell out of my trunk into the road where i watched an SUV run it over and destroy it. I now have a motor with no shaft. Worthless!!!

Consider the price for a gas power unit. The first wonder is to the negative comments left. So far the unit has been a good small at home tool. Feeds string easy while in use and starts easy. I needed a inexpensive cost cutting power tool to hand small jobs around my yard when the mower couldn't reach it. Trimming is easy with shield guard. All in all this works great. Keep in mind this unit assembles is easy within a matter of a few minutes. If you want a power unit for big jobs then look at others. If you have small jobs around a yard then this might be the ticket for the right tool for you. I will update if problems occur later with more use.
