Is the fan always on in cooling mode? I got this unit and it seems to work great, except I thought the fan would automatically shut off when it reaches the thermostat set point. In cooling mode - the cooling (compressor) shuts down at the set point, but the fan stays on. Is this the way it's supposed to operate?
Asked by: Scotty
Yes, This is the way the unit is supposed to operate. Thanks!

Exhaust Question

How hot is the actual exhaust? Is it okay to exhaust directly into the window screen? This won't melt or anything, correct?
Asked by: John
I just measured my exhaust temperature and it was 105° F. Certainly not hot enough to melt anything. I just stayed in an older motel that had a portable unit cooling the room and it did, indeed, exhaust through the window screen. I would think the screen would somewhat reduce the exhaust air flow and possibly decrease the efficiency of the unit but it certainly isn't harmed by the heat.

Is this an exhaust free unit or window exhaust unit?

Does this need a window for exhaust?
Asked by: anet
This unit must be exhausted to the outside and the room must be able to get enough air into it to replace the air blown outside.

I already have two of these Honeywell 10,000 BTU Portable Air Conditioners in my home. I like the easy set up, the portability and how cool it keeps the rooms. I have one placed in my dining room which I have had for two years and one that I purchased one year ago in my bedroom on the second floor which is always warmer than the first floor. I have not had any issues with either of the units. I am extremely happy with this product and have just ordered a third unit for the guest room on the second floor. I have recommended this product to other people.

Does not really cool bedroom area in a flat that < 450 sq ft in its entirety..... its a hot day here - first day of real use as we conserve energy and rarely use more than a window fan. So its 90 out and the AC unit has been on for many hours and has managed to cool the space to 80 degrees. I got this because I have an OLD and tiny window AC unit that did as well as this and wanted something better.... (sigh). Oh well. If you have a SMALL bedroom and use this you may be fine but don't expect it to perform as described.

Once I read the instruction manual, the controls were easy to understand. I would certainly recommend this product.

I purchased this unit ( Nov 2017) partly because of the advertised 5 year warranty. When I received it there was nothing in the manual about any warranty. The Box however said 1 year limited warranty. I called the company and they told me the newer models have a 1 year warranty, but because it was advertised on AAFES as a 5 year warranty, they will honor a 5 year warranty, but I had to send them a copy of my receipt and a picture of the serial number...Now I am not sure that this was a good buy, the only reason to change a warranty from 5 years to one year is because of issues and too many warranty claims... I hope that it provides the services it was intended to provide. I did call AAFES about this issue on 29 Nov, and was told they will contact Honeywell and verify the length of the warranty. I would not recommend this unit under a one year warranty.

I was concerned when I picked up my order at the local store because the box looked like it went through a war zone. I unpacked it and inspected it carefully, all parts were accounted for and no damage. The setup was easy but the window bracket took some redneck engineering to get it to work properly. The A/C unit itself is a nice piece but I figured the window bracket would be cheap and flimsy and it was. The bracket is 3 pieces of PVC with 2 crappy little plastic pins to put it together with and there is no foam gasket of any kind. Luckily I had foam gasket in my workshop so I didn't have to run to the hardware store because without it the bracket is loose and there is no seal of any kind, wind and rain are free to enter your home. I plan on making a better bracket with wood that fits my window perfectly and will seal correctly. If you don't have the ability to make your own window bracket then get a friend or hire someone to make you one. I don't think the one supplied will last more than one season. If you buy this unit don't leave Home Depot without 2 rolls of self adhesive weather strip. I used 3/8" x 3/8" and 3/4" x 1/4". Too sum it all up I will recommend the unit but be aware the window bracket needs to be modified. The packaging was in poor shape and the window bracket is total crap but the A/C unit works great so I'm giving it a 4 out of 5 stars. I would have gave it a 3.5 if this review would let me.

First air conditioner I have ever owned, and portable was the only way or me to go. . Did a lot of research before I bought it. This one had very high ratings, and Honeywell is an established USA co. Will definitely comment if there are any problems, but have no expectations of that. Plus Home Depot stands behind their products. Need I say more?

Tried to discuss with Honeywell but was brushed off with the excuse that in a heatwave this was normal and the the temp indicator could be off 3-4 degrees anyway. It cools the bedroom enough I can sleep.

The unit had a hard time keeping the temperature cool, although we did have a heat wave, but was adequate for my particular needs. I was disappointed because the unit is noisy. I had to cool the room during the day, then shut the unit off at night because it kept me awake.
