Is the fan always on in cooling mode? I got this unit and it seems to work great, except I thought the fan would automatically shut off when it reaches the thermostat set point. In cooling mode - the cooling (compressor) shuts down at the set point, but the fan stays on. Is this the way it's supposed to operate?
Asked by: Scotty
Yes, This is the way the unit is supposed to operate. Thanks!

Just got this and installed it in my room which is about 250 sq ft. Its been running for 2.5 hours and the temperature has gone down from 81 to 75. I think it should be cooling faster than this. The hose seems to be correctly connected and the only gap that would be a concern is the little between the window and the vent kit. The vent kit does leave a little gap but i think it should be common for most of us and thats too little to cause the a/c to cool so slowly. Did i just get a bad unit?
Asked by: AJ
The unit exhaust has only one correct orientation. If you did it wrong, then there will be a 1/4 inch opening in the window that will allow hot outside air to enter the room. Also, seal closed any central air vents, the unit will suck hot air from the vents if they are not sealed closed. When you first use the unit, it will run a fairly long time without too much improvement. It has to cool not just the air, but the walls, the flooring, the furniture and everything in between. Thereafter, it's really a nifty performer. You can expect a drop of about 18-20 degrees from the ambient outside temperature. When it got to 105, it was 80 degrees in my room, a pretty good drop of 25 degrees. I hope that it will be able to maintain that level of performance. The big benefit is the elimination of humidity.

Customer Reviews

10,000 BTU, 115-Volt Portable Air Conditioner with Dehumidifier and Remote Control in White is rated 4.2 out of 5 by 135.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great, keep our room nice and cold! A lot larger than what I expected (about the size of a mini fridge) however, this works FANTASTIC. My room is freezing at night and I usually set the temperature on the AC to 65. It turns on and off rotating between a low fan noise and high fan noise signaling when the cooling session begins. If loud ACs bother you I wouldn't recommend. I am definitely addicted to having a fan on and white noise when I sleep so I find the sound soothing. My bedroom is 12x16, and sometimes I leave my door open and it cools the hallway and family room very well too. There's three different settings (AC, fan, and humidifier) but I mainly just use the AC portion. Awesome that it has a set timer too so it will turn off when I go to work or while I'm sleeping. Would definitely recommend it for the price.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from LOVE this air conditioner! This air conditioner performs as stated. Packaging was amazing. It WAS quick to un-box and install. It has a much shorter "standing" period required prior to turning the unit on - 20 min. It is truly portable since it does not screw into the window & casing. The casters are perfect to move this unit easily across carpeting. The unit is lightweight for it's size. Cools well enough for a small bedroom which is what I intended it to be used for. Although the EER was quite high - which should be good - I gasped when my electric bill came in for a month of heavy use. This is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. I still love this unit, the way it operates and do not regret it's purchase - even with the electric bill. VERY important - it does not drip any water and I still have not had to empty it once.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Doesn't Cool The Room Yes, it's easy to set up and it isn't very loud but it doesn't do the job of cooling the room. I bought this portable to replace a 6,000 BTU window unit that requires removal from the window, disassembly and cleaning every 3 months to keep mold from forming inside the unit. This 10,000 BTU portable doesn't come close to the cooling power of the 6,000 BTU window unit. I noticed that the air exhaust hose is rather warm to the touch from carrying the hot air to the window bracket. Some of that heat is getting back into the room, but can't by itself explain the poor performance of this Honeywell unit. I will never buy another house without central air, and this Honeywell is going to back to Home Depot.

I purchased this unit ( Nov 2017) partly because of the advertised 5 year warranty. When I received it there was nothing in the manual about any warranty. The Box however said 1 year limited warranty. I called the company and they told me the newer models have a 1 year warranty, but because it was advertised on AAFES as a 5 year warranty, they will honor a 5 year warranty, but I had to send them a copy of my receipt and a picture of the serial number...Now I am not sure that this was a good buy, the only reason to change a warranty from 5 years to one year is because of issues and too many warranty claims... I hope that it provides the services it was intended to provide. I did call AAFES about this issue on 29 Nov, and was told they will contact Honeywell and verify the length of the warranty. I would not recommend this unit under a one year warranty.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Poorly designed We had to buy this AC unit because we could not have a window unit. The worst part of the unit is the hose and connection to the window for ventilation. Since how well the exhaust hose functions affects the efficiency of this unit, and its ability to cool, one would think it would be carefully designed with rubber seals and an easily adjustable window mount. Instead, you have a cheap plastic hose that has no seal at the connection to the unit or at the window. The mount at the window is cheap and requires much manipulation and towels to make sure the unit is exhausting properly. When I bought this it was over $500. For that price I expect much more.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from it's not cooling well Bought this unit a month ago. It was working well for the first week. After one week it lost the cooling efficiency and stop cooling down my room 22x12 the way as it did before. I did all recommended maintenance (draining water from both valves) but without any success. I believe the problem is in the unit's overall design and adopted "new technology" - it is a very different design from the window type A/C unit. I'm returning the portable unit back to home depot tomorrow and getting the window A/C unit instead.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from OK if you really don't want or can't have a window unit. I've used a window cooler in the past but didn't like the looks of it hanging out the window so decided to try this portable cooler. I am using this cooler in my home office that is just 100 square feet. It is overpowered for that small space but is the least power I could find for a portable cooler. It is noisy when the compressor is on but is not on much to keep my little office cool. It certainly takes up a lot of space in my small office but that, and the noise, is the sacrifice I make for appearances. I'm even going to vent it through the wall on the non-street side of the room (corner of house) so that even the vent isn't visible in the window from the street. The cooler blows so much air out the vent that it really creates a strong negative pressure in the room. So much so that, if I shut the door tight, it can't get enough air and shuts the compressor and exterior venting off. I have to leave the door loose so that it can suck open to allow the amount of air the cooling function needs. Bottom line: If my window wasn't on the street side of the house I would definitely stay with a window unit. Ah, the sacrifices we make for vain appearances!
