Can it be used in a car for additional heating when car heater not working at full vapacity

Asked by GLEN September 28, 2016

While it would probably do a good job of heating, it would not be a good idea to use it in a vehicle. One reason is that the heater needs a stable/flat surface. If it is knocked over, it will shut off. Trying to keep it stable in a vehicle would be distraction that you really don't need. Another reason is that, the heater runs on common house current, 120 VAC @ 2.1 Amps maximum (250 Watts). To run this in a car, you would need a power inverter that exceeds the 250 watt rating of the heater. Something like the link below. However, when the heater is running at full power you will be drawing around 20 Amps from you vehicles electrical system. So you need to make sure that you don't overload your alternator's capacity. http://www.homedepot.com/p/Battery-Extender-12-Volt-410-Watt-Power-Converter-BE01256/207136321

I was looking for a little space heater for my new feathered friend (my cockatiel) because my roommates keep our apartment so cold. So far, my little guy loves it and tries to cuddle up next to it at times. I even use it for next to my feet at times when lounging on the couch and works wonderfully. It was definitely a lot smaller than i thought it would be, but that's my fault for not paying close attention to the dimensions. I also love that it has the automatic turn off when it tips over for safety. The only description that i have to disagree with that came with the product was that it can heat up a whole room (a small room of course). It doesn't heat up the whole room, but does what i needed it to do.

These heaters are an excellent supplemental heat for areas the furnace doesn't reach as well. Not extremely hot, but can be quite warm in a small space. Not for heating a whole apartment unless you're in a studio.

Nice little heater
It does what I intended,I just wanted to heat the area under my desk. Does OK. If the area was larger it would be too small. It has run continuously for quite some time and keeping up.

I bought two of these heaters. I have had them for about one month. All of my water is stored in cisterns and require pumps to obtain a useful water pressure. The heater's intended purpose was to keep my two pump houses from freezing during the winter. The demise of the incandescent 75 watt light bulb meant that I had to find a different way of heating the pump houses. The pump house for my house is 4' wide x 3' deep and only 4' high and is made from cinder block. Its shielded from the weather, but the contents can easily freeze during the winter months. I run the heater on low and it keeps everything nicely above freezing. My other pump house is in the barn. It is similar in size to the other pump house and shielded from the weather. Again, it keeps the pump, pressure tank and all water lines above freezing. What I like about them is that they will automatically turn off, should a critter knock them over. It fully met my expectations.

Not perfect for my intended use
Speaking as a starving student and on a budget, I was trying to keep heat down in the apartment but needed some warmth for my computer fingers. It does not sit at the correct angle but instead blows in the general direction of my fingers.

Perfect for Twice The Ice console
Twice The Ice consoles are normally heated with a 60 watt light bulb. This keeps the money receivers, contactors and relays dry. When the bulbs blow, condensation builds up causing problems. This small heater on low works PERFECTLY. It keeps everything nice and dry and uses very little power.
