Product Overview

  • Drum humidifier w/install kit
  • For basic humidification in small to mid-sized homes
  • Includes relative humidity control (humidistat)
Put an end to desert-like air in your home. The average humidity in the Sahara Desert is 25%. In wintertime, the average humidity inside some homes can be even lower, leading to dry skin, "carpet shock", cracking woodwork and more. Reliable Honeywell Whole House Humidifiers work with your home's heating and cooling system to maintain a proper, comfortable humidity level throughout the home. They will save you money by allowing you to turn down your thermostat a few degrees because humid air feels warmer. Plus, you don't have the hassle of refilling the unit like you do with portable humidifiers.

Questions & Answers

Where on the duct work do you install a whole house Honeywell humifier?

And where do you put the Honeywell humidity controller?
Asked by: Liz
It can be installed on either the out or the return side of the ductwork, you want it close to the furnace for even distribution.

What is the nominal water output per day & for what house area, for the HE120A1010?

I can't find the output (gals per day, for say 2000 sq ft home ) anywhere in the specs section, for this Honeywell Drum Whole House Humidifier. The water vapor output says `YES ' ????
Asked by: Crisco
It would be difficult to measure the water as it is an auto feed system. I can say it changed my 1700 sq ft townhouse from 35 to 45% overnight.

Water leak and float

If the float ball got stuck, could the water overflow potentially flood an entire 900 sq ft basement in a day or two?
Asked by: Pix
Hi, I guess that would be a possibility, I guess what is the definition of flooded, it could certainly get it totally wet, not sure about the depth, the drain hose should have let the water drain away without an issue, sorry I can't give a better answer ...

Drum Whole House Humidifier is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 69.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Nice Humidifier design and operation I have had a "pass through" humidifier for years - have not had a drum one like this for a long time. But, my pass though kept leaking and I bought this one. Whomever engineered this product did a wonderful job. The instructions, parts, and assembly went very well. Everything worked as advertised........

Rated 5 out of 5 by from If replacing another drum unit, read this... This humdifier works great and has definitely made a difference in our home. Installation would have been fairly easy if this had been a new install but when replacing an older drum unit, it was all the small things that added up - stubborn fittings that wouldn't come loose on the old unit, and the duct work supplied with this unit not being long enough. I believe this unit comes with 4' of bypass duct, which was a tad too short so I had to run out and get an 8' piece. Once installed, the unit performs beautifully.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Good unit. Installation requires some DIY skills Installation was actually pretty straight forward but there were a few "short comings" in the kit that I think people should be aware of. the supplied duct is just way too short. I have a "highboy" style air handler and the return and supply ducts are pretty much right next to each other. Only a few inches apart actually. I had some trouble getting the supplied duct to reach far enough. it's 3 feet I think but if you need to bend it 90 degrees you lose a foot of length. Measure first and see if you need a longer duct. save yourself a trip. Also, the duct has a block off plate that isn't really sized properly. IF you cut a full circle into the supply ( as the instructions indicate) the block off plate will only cover about 75% of the opening which is just way too much. Solution: Cut the hole smaller and in a somewhat oval shape. A bit more work but the shutter will then fully block the duct when it's not in use. The kit comes with a plastic water supply line ( PEX? ) So if your building code locally requires copper, you'll need a new line. Again save yourself a trip and get it while you are at the store. Finally, you will need a near by outlet and water pipe to tap into. If there is no outlet near your furnace, you'll need to have one put in. Finally, one of the little plastic bits on the drain was too big to fit properly in the unit and I had to use a dremel to file it down to size. Given all of this, I wouldn't take on this job like this unless you were pretty handy. I was able to get it done in a few hours. As for the function of the unit, it seems to be working well. Once I got all those little installation details worked out, everything works very well. No leaks or anything and it worked the first time I turned it on. The humidity level in the house is coming up nicely and it requires basically no work from here on in.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great humidifier Just like the instructions say: Each installation will be different and I had a few challenges, but just a little common sense and everything went together superbly. Our water line source is PVC (which isn't covered in the installation booklet) so I drilled an 1/8" in hole and secured the tap to it and it works great. Our air quality has improved from Sahara desert uncomfortable to a very nice humidity level that will make a huge difference on our dry itchy skin. Great little unit - highly recommended. We packed up our room unit humidifiers for the next garage sale.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Whole House Humidifier This is a very nice whole house humidifier, its easy to install and works great. Installation was very easy, you just mount it to your furnace and connect a water line and plug it in. It puts out warm moist air throughout your house.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Installed easily, but had to troublshoot noise issue Product works. Total install time was about 2.5 hours. I replaced the flexible hose with round sheet metal ductwork. Also, the required water line was already in place from an older humidifier install. Here's the catch: the humidifier produced a periodic "fog horn" like sound after the install. It took me a couple of weeks of rushing to the basement when the noise occurred to determine the cause. The cause? The plastic discs that hold the foam roller in place had to be pushed closer together than I intuitively thought (based on the directions). Somehow their was a friction-based noise that echoed throughout the house via the ductwork.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Pretty good! 2 winters so far. First winter installed w/out in-line water filter on hot supply line: water reservoir and drum pad didn't make it til Spring. Ugly plumbing situation combined w/Chicago water left unit caked with hard water buildup, deposits and smelled musty. Second winter with in-line 5 year fridge water filter on cold supply line: the difference in adding a supply line filter is unreal. Water in pan is crystal clear, no funky smells and humidity is a steady 47% in a 2500 sqft home of 3 levels. Pan is perfectly clean and the drum pad won't need replacing next winter thanks to this: http://m.homedepot.com/p/HDX-Long-Life-Exterior-In-Line-Refrigerator-Ice-Maker-Filter-HDXR5F4/205459561. Don't let negative reviews turn you away from this unit. I'm sure it's no-joke frustrating to install if you're not handy.

The are is still noticeably dry and I have the humidity setting as high as possible. After my initial installation I realized the drum ran nonstop, even when the furnace wasn't running. It makes an annoying clicking sound every few minutes that isn't a problem when the furnace is running, but the sound travels through all the duct work and can be heard throughout the house when the furnace isn't running. After doing some research I found a way to hook a switch to the fan power supply that would act on the drum so it would only run when the furnace fan was on. All in all, poor product. I'm not sure if its ineffectiveness is due to the style (by-pass type) or the brand. I bought this humidifier about a year ago and am already buying another one because this one is so bad.
