Inaccurate performance
I manually lowered the set temp from 83 to 82, the thermostat triggered a/c when the room temp was 81. Many times that a/c keeps running at room temp 78 when the set temp was 80.

Hi, this is not what you should expect. We would like to verify the wiring, configuration and if the thermostat shows 'Cool On' when the inside temperature is 78 and set temperature is 80 but the cool is running. After having 3 of the RTH2300 models each fail the same way at almost exactly 1 yr old, I had the system tested and all new wiring run from the thermostat to furnace to outside unit. I purchased this model as an upgrade. Now at exactly 2 yrs old the same failure. The repair guy said this is a common problem with cheap Honeywell units. The relay built into the circuit board that clicks when the A/C turns on has failed again. And once again it was 90 degrees outside when it failed. Jumping the terminals at the back of the thermostat like Resideo's support has you do once again showed the system and wiring are fine.
I sure wish there was a better more reliable thermostat out there that is not a smart home one. I sure don't want to replace one of those at $300 every year or two. I should install the new one with velcro.

Do Not Buy a Honeywell Home Thermostat
We purchased a Honeywell Home T3 programmable thermostats. Installation was easy, and initially the thermostat appeared to work correctly. However, I noticed that the fan ran continuously, and when it was checked by an HVAC specialist (two actually) it was confirmed that the thermostat was defective and was sending heat and cool signals at the same time. This in turn damaged the circuit board in the HVAC unit which need replacing at $500. After hours and hours on hold, repeated calls, emails, and providing them with both the HVAC provider, as well as their technician's phone numbers, they determined that their warranty would only cover the thermostat from defect. The delay was in heir words because they needed to discuss the matter with the installer. I am sure that this was to pressure the installer to incur the expense of the replacement circuit board. This process took more than two months, and they did not even offer to provide me a new thermostat. Also note that this is not Honeywell anymore, but Resideo a spinoff of Honeywell that has a long-term license agreement to use the Honeywell name.
