Answer This Question

A:  This valved is typically used on a water heater to reduce and/or limit the temperature going to the fixtures. It is installed at the heater (normally on the top); The Hot output from the heater goes to the H (Hot) input on the valve, and it is also fed with a cold line (Tee into the cold water line feeding the tank) which goes to the C (Cold input on the valve). The MIX output goes to the line feeding the property supplying tempered water to the fixtures.

A:  This is a mixing valve. The knob is the temperature controller. The opposite end is the final temperature that goes to the house. 2 sides are for cold and hot water supply from the water heater But don’t buy Honeywell mine failed in a year.

A:  After the water heater and before the showers or sinks. The valve has a "cold in" and a "hot in" and a "mix out" flow. As the name suggests the valve mixes hot and cold water to a temperature that is set with the adjustment somewhere between the extremes of the hot and the cold in flows.

Q:How well does it maintain calibrated temperature as the hot water in the tank starts running out?

A:  It maintains the correct temperature

          by|Jan 8, 2020

A:  I do not have problems with that. Mine are in line with one 60-gallon hot water heater per 2 showers in an institutional setting. I have never had complaints of temperature fluctuation. This product has worked well for my needs. If you make frequent or recurring adjustments, you need to be careful of the plastic groves in the adjustment knob. I winterize my system. So every fall and spring I'm adjusting the temperature setting to cause the valve to allow air and antifreeze to flow freely. You just need to make sure you have good contact with the grooves before making adjustments.

Installed to regulate the temperature going my existing master bathroom shower. Has been working well for the past 2 weeks. Pros: Comes with both 1/2" and 3/4" fittings (3 of each) so that you can mix and match. Cons: Shipped configured going to the coldest temperature so adjustment required after install. Little bit of temperature change upon transient in water pressure but much better than without unit. Things that would be nice for the future: 1) An in-line version or an in-line manifold to retro fit old work installs. 2) An in-line jig so that you can sweat this together without damaging final product temperature sensitive components.

Exact replacement of original, functions as designed. would buy again if needed. This unit is currently being used in a very corrosive environment to temper water to meet the chemical distributions needs. It replaced a unit with a worn out insert after many years of service.

Thermostatic Mixing Valve AM101C-US-1 Excellent Buy
The Thermostatic Mixing Valve is used to control the water temperature at the water heater. This model is rated for 70 to 120 degrees F. It works great for our two-story home. Our setting is at 114 degrees F and holds this temperature very well. There are no markings on the valve knob and it is a guess to where to set it at. Have to consider you are dealing with water heater temperature and the cold water temperature which will vary at each home. We have an in-home childcare and water at taps cannot be at 120 degrees F or higher. With the childcare and our own children from our family, we are able to have a constant flow of hot water for showers, dishes, etc. at 114 degrees F. We have a high efficiency 50 gallon water heater and never run low or out of hot water. Agree with other reviews that limited to around 115 degrees F for setting. There is an exact model that allows for settings from 70 to 145 degrees F. That model does not have the (C) in it. The model is AM101-US-1. We are good with the model we bought with the (C). Easy to install and great price. Most other home improvement stores sell this model for at least $40. more. Great buy, especially with free shipping.
