I ordered two units as backup in the event of power outage due to hurricane. Both arrived in good condition and operated well in my test usage. The only reason that I didn't give them 5 stars is that the window venting kit does not handle many window sizes, including mine. If I intended to use the units other than in an emergency, I would return them. Here's the problem: The venting kit consists of three PVC-like pieces, one of which accommodates the vent hoses. If that piece does not fit your window, you can add one or both of two other fixed pieces, thereby permitting 4 possible window sizes. Although the pictures and illustrations make it look like you can slide them together, they do NOT meaningfully adjust beyond the 4 choices without blocking the hose outlets. For me, the only combination of the pieces leaves about 1 inch of space, which I will need to duct tape or stuff with towels. Also, the hose outlets leave very little space to accommodate any lip on the window frame. I will need to stuff some towels under the vent kit to raise it high enough for the hoses to be attached. You can see the problems in the attached photo.

This is the third Honeywell portable A/C unit I recently purchased and the largest BTU as I was putting it in my living room. The description of this unit indicates that it would cool a space up to 700 sq.ft. My living room, is just about 432 sq.ft. and even adding my den is still comes under 700 sq.ft. by over 100 sq.ft. This unit doesn’t come close to cooling my living room. I even have fans running to help with the circulation of air. It would probably do a fine job in my bedroom, where I currently am running a 12,000 sq.ft. unit. which is only 225 sq.ft.

We are sorry to hear this ! Our units work best in enclosed, well insulated spaces. Room environment conditions such as ceiling height, sunlight, number of windows/ doors and level of insulation can affect cooling efficiency and there are ways to increase the capacity of these units. There could be other reasons for the unit to not cool- temperature setting could be too high, the dust filter could be dirty, or the air outlet could be blocked. Please do give us a call at 1-800-474-2147, Monday - Friday 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM (EST), or send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org with the reference code number THB0624. The Honeywell 14,000 BTU dual-hose portable a/c unit is for most of my bedroom cooling needs during the hot months. The single-hose LG 10,0000 BTU a/c unit is for room ventilation during the cooler months and for rainy days. The Honeywell dual-hose unit has no "single-hose mode". The exhaust fan only runs when the compressor is cycled on during the cooling mode. In fan mode, the exhaust fan is inoperative so this unit is no good as a room ventilator. It can't generate back pressure to draw in outside air to the inside of the home like the single-hose design can so I need both types of a/c for a complete climate solution.
If Honeywell and other dual-hose a/c makers were even smarter, they'd design a unit with a ventilation/back pressure/single-hose mode that would switch from dual-hose mode to single-hose mode by flipping a lever or pushing a button. In this theoretical back-pressure fashion, air would be drawn in from the bedroom instead of via the window kit intake hose by means of a diverter valve to cool the condenser coil and expel the air back out the window. In this single-hose mode, the exhaust fan would run continuously, in either cool or fan mode, for flow-through ventilation drawing fresh air into the home from the other rooms by the pores in the walls and the gaps around doors and windows. Think of automobile climate control: dual-hose mode should be a recirculation function (no air drawn from the outside to mix with indoor atmosphere) while single-hose mode should be a "fresh air from the outside" function. It's rather inconvenient to have to disconnect hoses from the window kit to change airflow modes anyway. These portable a/c machines have limited dehumidification in cooling mode as well so in humid climates one need a separate dehumidifier in the bedroom.
I also need a separate stand fan to get maximum cooling effect due to wind chill. This Honeywell, as most other dual-hose a/c units with a top cooling vent, has limited air flow output: a weak fan to blow cold air out even at HIGH speed. My single hose LG a/c with a large square front vent has much more powerful air flow. Sometimes I have to place the fan right in front of the Honeywell while in bed to get maximum cooling comfort. The fan boosts the cold air current delivery to my body where I lie in bed. The dual hose model has the advantage of not drawing more humid air into the home while the single-hose model has the advantage of flow-through home ventilation. I can't open my windows (sans awning/overhang protection) during rainy weather as the strong winds of SW Oklahoma will blow water right into my home and that's where my single-hose a/c comes in handy for flow-through cooling and ventilation.
I have a tall bedroom window sill and note the cement blocks I have the Honeywell up on that allow the short hoses to reach the window kit. Another flop in design. I have yet to see how well this unit cools my bedroom on 100+ days. It seems to keep my bedroom at 68-70 degrees temperature so far with outside temperatures up to 96 degrees. I have a bedside digital thermometer and humidity gauge. The temperature readout out on the aircon panel reads 3-4 degrees cooler than the thermometer by my bedside indicates. An HVAC tech told me years ago an aircon should keep the interior of the home at least 30 degrees cooler than the exterior. I usually have to keep the temp setting on the aircon about 67 degrees to feel 68-70 degrees in bed which is on the opposite side of the 145 square foot bedroom and have separate portable fan between the foot of my bed and the front of the aircon cooling vent.
Honeywell could improve this unit by offering an optional flow-through ventilation for fan and cooling mode (which when selected, the unit in would operate exactly the same as a single-hose unit in physics principles), a much stronger cooling fan and more generous hose lengths for tall window sills.
I bought this for my 100+ yr old duplex with no cooling. I'm amazed at how easy it was to assemble - very intuitive, I shocked myself by being able to set it up without directions. I've only used the cooling so far and the remote is nice to have. Can't go wrong with Honeywell!
I have 680 sq ft to cool. Specs say it should do 700 sq ft. It does not do that large a space. It does get the 680 sq ft to a comfortable humidity level but can not get below 78 degrees when the starting room tempurature is 82. On a good note, with extremely high humidity levels, the unit vents all the condensation out the exhust. Never had to empty out any water.

Thank you for your review and feedback! Our portable air conditioners work best in enclosed, well insulated spaces. Room environment conditions such as ceiling height, sunlight, number of windows/ doors and level of insulation can affect cooling efficiency and there are ways to increase the capacity of these units. There could be other reasons for the unit to not cool- temperature setting could be too high, or the exhaust hose may need re-installation to avoid the heat from coming back into the room. Our units work on self evaporation and hence do not need to be drained unless operating in very humid conditions. Used for a few weeks now to cool down our living room and entry way. Very effective. Can cool 700+ square feet well.
Two minor problems:
(1) The panel for holding the hoses in the window has, for our windows, just two sizes--too large and too small. However, this is a minor problem, and the gap for the "too small" size can be filled with some scrap wood or even cardboard.
(2) The remote control does not work at a reasonable distance. I end up mostly walking up to the thing to adjust it.

Bought a super cheap portable ac unit that leaked like crazy and didn't cool very well.
This one is worth the money!!!! Have a large open living area. I can feel the cool air in our 1150 sqft area! Been very happy with this unit. Would recommend for anyone looking for a great ac unit. Only trouble I ran into was registering it on the company's website. Didn't have my receipt.

So far so good. I have only run it all day for a few days, but I have found that on a moderately warm day, it can cool the entire downstairs, which is somewhere around 700 sq ft with 9-foot ceilings. It is exactly as noisy as I would expect it to be, so no issues there. I don't think people understand the difference between a dual hose model and a single hose one. I have a similar (same BTU) single hose unit in my parents' barn apartment in the desert. It absolutely cannot cool even that small space because it negatively pressures the room and sucks hot desert air in through every little crack and crevice in the building, especially around the sliding door. It just makes a little cool area right in front of it. If it were a dual hose unit, it would easily be able to cool that space. Live and learn. If you're going to buy a portable A/C, get a dual hose model.
