A:  Hi Joyce, thank you for the inquiry regarding our Hot Shot Ultra Clear Roach and Ant Gel Bait. Once opened up out of the packaging on the inside of the syringe you will remove a small clear plastic piece and then take the plunger portion and the rubber end will slide into the syringe. You may have to slant the plunger just a tiny bit to fit in to the syringe. For any further assistance please contact us at 1-800-917-5438 or email us at youropinioncounts@spectrumbrands.com so that we may better assist you. I tried using this "syringe" but it got stuck right from get go, then lost a big amount of it then it got stuck again. Trying to press further the syringe "BROKE"!!! Does Hotshot not "quality control" anything? I don't think so. Never will use this again.

Terrible product. Does it work to stop ants? No idea. The poor tube design causes uncontrolled pressurized jets of product coming out of the tube. I spent half an hour cleaning my kitchen surfaces after I tried to apply the product caused it to spray out, literally everywhere. The tube won't budge unless you apply sufficient force, and once you hit that force, the plunger depresses like an inch to two, shooting out the gel. Pretty much the entire tube was spent after my two tries, theres only an inch left, but I dare not try it again, as I am sick of scrubbing small poison gel globs off my kitchen surfaces, floors, and myself. Try a different product and save yourself the pain. I am sure this isnt how it is suppose to work, and maybe my tube had a flaw, not sure, I guess I would try a lube on the rubber bit if I had to try again, but nothing in the directions told me about this, or what to do to prevent it. What would be so wrong with a squeeze bottle, they had to get fancy with a plunger design. The photo is all that's left after my two tries during my first time using this product.

Had very tiny ants in my kitchen. Sprayed Ortho home defence bug from the gallon container and still had problem. Used this jell on the inside corner of my counters and along the inside corner where floor meets cabinets in conjuction with some ant bait traps and no ants. Absolutely the quickest and best results I have ever had.

Three stars, because while effective, it's not entirely user friendly. **I will also mention that I used this for an ant infestation and have no experience using it to combat roaches. This review will be focused on using this product to deal with an ant problem only.** The Pros: - It works as advertised for getting rid of ants (however, do read the fine print on the package, as there are a few species of ants that this product WILL NOT work on). The Cons: - The dispensing nozzle is, in my opinion, far too big; half the diameter would be sufficient and make the product easier to use. - The gel is the consistency of somewhere between maple syrup and grape jelly (rather runny), which makes it difficult to dispense cleanly. - The directions included with the product are sub-par; there's no written instructions for how to assemble the syringe, only crude drawings. For anyone reading this who intends to use this product, here are some written directions: 1) Remove product from package. 2) Remove twist off black cap from the back of the syringe. 3) Remove inner clear cap from back of syringe (there is a little ring inside to grab, which makes it rather easy to remove; similar to the seal under the cap on a carton of orange juice. 4) Insert plunger into back of syringe (I would recommend doing this over a sink, just in case the cap on the dispensing tip comes off). 5) Remove cap from dispensing tip and depress plunger to dispense the gel. My suggestions: As mentioned by another reviewer, I recommend filling cut pieces of a plastic drinking straw with the gel. This makes for an effective trap and VERY easy clean up. Be sure to fill the pieces of straw over a sink or somewhere that will be easy to clean up afterward, because you're almost guaranteed to make a mess unless you use a large diameter straw (like a boba straw) that you can fit the entire dispensing tip into. I ended up wasting about a third of the tube of gel because of the aforementioned design flaws, but I made 8 traps and still have about a third of a tube of gel remaining. If you have leftovers, just recap the dispensing tip and store in a cool, dry place (out of reach of children and pets, obviously). A final thought: There are better products out there, but in my experience, you can only find them online and therefore they would not be the best immediate solution to an ant problem. I don't think it's proper etiquette to recommend a different product in a review for a competing product, but... Without outright saying it, the brand I would recommend over this stuff, starts with an "A" and usually comes in a 4 pack of 30g tubes. ;-) It is about 4x the cost of the Hot Shot gel, though, so there's that to consider. Need an immediate solution to your ant problem or shopping on a budget? Go with the Hot Shot gel.

I bought and used this product exactly a month ago today and this morning we noticed maggots coming out from under a wall. We cleaned up the area and they kept coming out. Then, we noticed that every single place (10 places) we applied the ant gel bait was teeming with maggots. DO NOT BUY!!! (Photos taken after we cleaned up and they were still coming out so we had to apply borax powder, the original product had long since dried up and left its sticky residue)

                  Roach Nuke in a tube
Had a sudden gang of battleship sized roaches show up on a Friday afternoon in a warehouse bathroom. These guys were on the wall and escaping any chance of a stomp by dashing up into the area above a drop ceiling. Placed a blob of hot shot in several corners of 2 bathrooms both on the floor and on any vertical surface they were seen. Monday morning both bathrooms AND areas where no hot shot had been used looked like a battle zone with multiple DOA's.......not a single sign of life. If some did take this stuff back to the nest then it has done exactly what the label said it would do and for an off the shelf product the results are impressive. Also just noticed that every blob of Hot Shot is gone! Going to add more today for anybody that missed the party over the weekend. I wish the Paid Exterminators stuff worked this well.
