Is this safe to use on wooden children's toys?

Is this safe to use on wooden children's toys?
Asked by: Christopher
This is a good safe product for use on cutting boards so I see no reason why it could not be used on toys. I have used it on wood baby rattles I made on my lathe.

Just received my order from HD of a butcher countertop slab made of birch wood that I'll cut into two slabs - placed on both sides between my oven/range. Will this oil turn the birch wood counters into an orange-like color, (which I really don't want) or will this oil give a light warm hue as it saturates the wood?
Asked by: MJP
From my perspective this is pretty clear when applied. It does have bees wax and so will probably give a slight yellowish tint on a light colored wood like birch. I would recommend taking a scrap and trying it before putting it on the entire top just to make sure you like the result. This is great if you plan to use the counter as a cutting surface. Another option for a counter top is to use "salad bowl finish" This is a hard finish that is approved for direct contact with food and will give you a long counter life. If you do not plan to use it as a cutting surface this is a great option.

Do I need to apply Howard Butcher Block Oil first before the conditioner? What the difference?

Asked by: Eyerish
The oil seals the wood and penetrates. The wax/conditioner is basically a top coat the protect against knife cuts. It basically heals itself after a knife is used on it.
