Try in a small area that is not well seen AFTER you find a Restor-A-Finish that is close to the wood color you have. Also wait a couple of days and then look at the area and see if you like the results before putting it anywhere else on your floor. I would definitely use it.

Will this product work on an exterior wood door with several coats of varnish on it? The wood appears to be a softer wood. It is definitely not oak. I noticed all reviewers used it in interior applications such as cabinets, and furniture which typically have less varnish. Will I need to apply new varnish if I use this product? Painters want at least $150 to sand and paint the outside of the door. Additional varnish was not recommended due to variations in color from previous sanding re-varnishing. The door is in good condition but UGLY. Thank you.

Why not find a color close to your door. Wipe off the door with a soft large lightly wet sponge. Let dry a day. Then cut up old wash cloth, use a little in a spot at the bottom of the door, like a fine line across the bottom. Wait 2 days. Do you like the results? If yes, use it. I've put this on furniture and doors that has protective coats and worked fine. If you get a darker color than your door, will make door a little darker. However, this is not paint or stain. It's cheap, try it.

Eliminating Tobacco smoke odor

I recently purchased a used bedroom set that is heavily penetrated with tobacco smoke. Will this product seal the smoke odor?
Asked by: Restore2016
I received an over 30 years old table that was owned by heavy smokers. It looks beautiful now. However, everyone's house and apartment has its own smell. Keep the set outside in the air as much as possible and in the garage for awhile if possible. Clean furniture with a soft lightly wet sponge and let dry. Then use Restor-A-Finish keeping the windows open. The furniture needs to air as much as possible to get rid of the smoke smell. (I'm a none smoker). The finish will look great and no it does not seal the smoke smell. You could look into a wood cleaner before using also but I just believe in airing out as much as possible. Then after using Restor-A-Finish use the Howard Bees Wax. This will help also. Nice smell and shiney.

I study the internet "how to's". I wanted easy, cheap, works well. Not talented but needed to restore furniture without much effort. Prefer saving instead of buying new. Restored tables, bathroom cabinets and antique furniture with Restor-A-Finish (used different colors). Golden Oak worked well for my light colored cabinets. I then added the Bee's Wax that is recommended on the back. Just cleaned off wood with a lightly wet sponge. Made sure dry. Cut up old wash cloth. Used gloves and put on a little heavy following the grain of the wood. As it dries, some scratches will show but they are darker so harder to see. Thus making the wood look new. One tin goes a long way!

Restore a Finish did wonders for a old buffet. This is a old piece that has been in my family for several generations. I started with Restore a Finish and some extra fine steel wool. I finished with Howard brand Feed-n-Wax. It looks so nice now. I'm very pleased with the result. The before and after pictures speak for themselves.

In getting ready to sell our home this spring wanted to find a simple, cheap, and fairly easy way to refresh our kitchen and bathroom cabinets. Thought I'd try this product after looking for something that might do the job. Started in one of the bathrooms and was very pleased. I tend to be a bit skeptical of things that seem too easy so Ive done a bit more prep work than the directions call for, after all, our cabinets show every bit of their 25+ years of age and use. I used a verssiion of "scotch-brite" abrasive pads though with a finer abrasive level. (these can be found at some hardwarestores or on line) After pulling the doors off the hinges and removed all hardware then carefull cleaned everything very well, then went over the outer surfaces with an "extra fine" (maroon) pad, paying particular attention to the corners and details etc. Wiped them down with a damp cloth and gave them another breif session with "ultra fine" (beige) pads. then after cleaning the dust off again and giving them a good 30 minutes to dry, used the beige pad to apply the Howard product, fairly liberaly and keeping the pad wet. After letting it soak in for 10 minutes or so, wiped them off with a clean rag (old t-shirt) and after another 5-10 minutes repeated another coat of Howards and wiped it off this time almost imeadiatly - I wanted to avoid darkening the cabinets too much. After waiting overnite I put the cabinets back together and gave them a coat of paste wax .... They look very good, even the worst areas of the cabinets under the kitchen sink look good, not quite like new but close to it. Great product. I on using it on some interior doors and woodwork as well. Big improvment for not a lot of work, and not a lot of money. Just do the prep and make sure the surfaces are clean, free of grease, and dry.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Stuff Really Works! I have a 20+ year old oak table that was marred by white heat marks, etc. I thought I had no option but to refinish it. While looking for products to do so, I saw this. Although skeptical, I thought I had nothing to lose since I planned to refinish the table anyway. I applied according to directions, with fine steel wool. Within minutes, the finish was restored. I topped it off with a coat of Howard's Feed-N-Wax, and the table looks almost new. The heat marks are gone. Sure beats a total refinish job.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fabulous Product I just used this (light oak) on my 20 year old Merolat cabinets in the kitchen. I didn't used the steel wool, just an old washcloth to put it on with some rubber gloves on. It took me about 30 minutes to apply and wipe off the excess. The cabinets now look 10 years younger, I will apply the wax next weekend for a protective shine. This is a great product and I have used it before on an old china cabinet to spruce it up, just wipe on and wipe off. I am sure if I used steel wool it would even look better, but hey, I am happy as it is doing it the lazy and simple way, great stuff!
