Questions & Answers

what color to use on med oak?

Cabinet is not a light oak, but more of a darker oak, what color do I use on bathroom vanity
Asked by: Judy
I used golden oak on a medium oak kitchen table. I used walnut on a darker oak finish. If unsure, I'd try the golden oak first.

I recently cleaned and restained a walnut desk and the used Teak oil to preserve the wood. Can I use this product ?

After the real oil finish dried I buffed it out with a clean cloth, but noticed some "dry" spots. Will this product be able to produce a uniform sheen?
Asked by: BobbyK
Teak oil is either an oil product or a polymer/oil product so yes I would think it should work.

Could I use this on outside furniture?

I have a wood piece that is often outside and quite dry -- with some light sanding would this help to restore the finish? I would rather try this then endless sanding, refinishing and clear coating...
Asked by: Restore
I would just clean the furniture, scrub with steel wool as per the instructions, and apply a few coats of this product. It is fantastic!

16 oz. Walnut Wood Finish Restorer is rated 4.8 out of 5 by 35.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from This product is AMAZING!!! I used this product on my wood floors and got incredible results. I have now done all floors in my house and done the steps. I live in a 200 year old house with original floors! I followed the simple directions and applied two coats of the product. I even touched up all the furniture that was in the rooms too! If you do not want to sand and strip floors and create all that dust and extra work, this is the product for you! I promise you will love the results! I am including pictures so you can see how amazing this product is! Go buy it, you will not be disappointed!

However I stumbled across Restore-A-Finish and what a magic it has done. Not only it took care of small blemishes easily, but also fixed big scratches and patches etc. As recommended I used super fine steel wool and it just worked wonders. My mid century bedroom furniture now looks like new. It is recommended to put a coat of wax, which is my next project. One 16Oz bottle was more for a large dresser, chest and 2 night stands.

Used this on the kitchen and bathroom cabinets in a house we were listing to sell 4 yrs ago and it greatly improved the appearance. Bought it again last month to restore the color/richness to wood stained cabinets in the bathrooms of a rental property with again...very amazing results! Fantastic product and available in so many colors.

I recently put them on my ash kitchen cabinets and WOW was I happy I did! I first cleaned them well and put a coat of the walnut finish on. It made them a bit darker (wanted that) and after added new knobs from HD, My cabinets now look new....I'm not kidding, even friends that came by said WOW!! Get this and you won't be sorry....

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Outstanding Do not strip wood furniture without trying this. Much less effort for a spectacularly similar result. Can't say enough good things about this product. Removed 60 years of grim, paint scuffs and sun damage in one application with 0000 steel wool.

Researched different options...paint, attempting to re-stain, reface or complete replacement ($$$!) of medium walnut raised panel kitchen cabinets that are in good condition otherwise. There are problems with each option, mentioned in kitchen rehab (often horror) stories on the net. So I gave this product a try. Didn't have much to lose, as the finish was deteriorating in various areas, especially around the sink and cutlery drawer. I used the Restorer in combination with the 0000 steel wool and finished with the Howard polish. My wife (final judge) said the cabinets look like they did 20-years ago...even in areas where the (poly?) varnish was flaking off. I think the steel wool helps smooth these flaking areas. The cabinets have an even color, non-blotchy appearance. Exceeded my expectations that this was a glorified Old English treatment. Relatively low odor for a solvent-based product. Wear gloves and have plenty of rags to wipe off excess product. Incredibly cheap compared with other restoration choices, presuming you can live with the stain color you have....we can, and we saved a ton of money.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from try it before you strip it! I can't say enough about this product--it does exactly what it says it will do. I used it in conjunction with the Feed-N-Wax and my furniture was basically revitalized. I was very skeptical, but the first piece I tried it on was in such sorry shape that I figured that I couldn't make it any worse. Surprisingly, it worked like a charm and now I have beautiful furniture that I don't have to strip and refinish, and the original finish looks better than ever, which is even better! I am so happy that I found this product I am planning on buying the other colors to try on other furniture!
