Questions & Answers

Cost info on tape to use and screws size

Asked by: Bill
I read on the Huber site that one roll of tape per seven sheets of sheathing is a good role of thumb. Could be a little less or a little more depending on your wall dimensions, cutouts, etc. That should at least get you close though.

What thicknesses does this come in ?
Asked by: PJ
Huber offers 7/16", 1/2", and 5/8" thicknesses. (The 1/2" and 5/8" are reddish-brown.) They also offer versions with polyiso foam-insulation, and versions with radiant barrier.

Can the "green" side be painted when used for interior walls or ceiling?

Asked by: Lew
You could prime it with oil-based Kilz, then top-coat it with latex. Tip: Regular OSB has practically the same texture on the facing surface. The green barrier only partially smooths it out. You may be better off getting regular OSB for your intended application. In either case, use an oil-based primer under a latex topcoat.

Customer Reviews

7/16 In. 4 Ft. x 8 Ft. Huber Zip OSB Wall Sheathing is rated 3.5 out of 5 by 2.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Zip Sheathing Amazing product. Built in vapor barrier externally applied with a tape sealing system that is hard to beat. Used it on a large project with great results. No need for house wrap and it was 100 percent wind and draft tight. Will use again. Worth the money.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Moisture issues This product performs great to stop wind penetration, and that's where the benefits end. Yes it is an easy install, but it doesn't breathe. Moisture is a wall assembly's worst enemy, zip doesn't seal around penetrations, and doesn't let your house breathe. This is almost as bad as spray foam. Do yourself a huge service and read into WRBs that air seal but are still permeable.
