How do you open the package and free the straps?

Asked by KathrynS December 13, 2016

Answers

Better question is, "What kind of person designed this package, and without instructions as to how to preserve it without breaking it?" One would think they would give instructions as to how to open it given they made it so difficult. I paid for that package and wound up breaking it! They are also wasting the consumers' valuable time in trying to figure it out, including coming here for guidance.

Why are the J-hooks useful, rather than having just a single continuous strap?

You can use like a continuous if you hook the ends together. As they are designed they can also secure things to another object easily.

Hello, is it possible to tell me the dimension and weight of the ratchet? Thank you

The ratchet is approximately 4 inches long by 2 inches wide when it's in the closed or locked position. It might weigh 8 ounces.

Are these S hooks small enough to fit most tarp grommets? Thank you!

I doubt they fit the gommet.. I recommend getting locking S hooks to attach to the tarp and the the other end is big enough for tie downs. Or fasten a loop of rope to each gommet

I would not recommend using this for that

Are these ideal for ladders to be secured on ladder racks?

Answers

I'm not certain I understand the question. Do you mean to tie extension ladders to the roof racks of a vehicle (like a van)? If so - yes - they would be well suited for that. If you have some plan to connect ladders to each other in some sort of contorted scaffolding type set up - I'd have to say no - not because of the product - but because it just doesn't sound safe at all.

Can the hook be attached back on the ratchet?

I sure would like to reuse the packaging to keep my tie down straps organized - however I can yet...

I have been using these straps for the past 4 years. They are decent straps for the money but they could be a little better quality. The straps are made of a slippery material and tend to slide across cargo frequently. The straps are also frayed after normal use because of how thin they are. They have not met my expectations even with a 4 star review. I wouldn't buy them again.

I bought these to anchor down my outside central air conditioning unit. I drilled & embedded concrete anchors into the concrete slab in a total of 8 places around the AC unit's 4 sides. I screwed 3/8 inch thick eye bolts into these 8 anchors. When a hurricane threatens I will attach both ends of the 4 ratchet tie-downs into the 8 eye bolts. Should prevent a tip over. My only objection is the packaging. It seems like (in addition to the supplied pouch) it could be used to store the ratchet tie-downs very neatly. HOWEVER, it is a brain teaser to try to figure out how to take out the tie-downs without breaking the plastic packaging. What kind of unreasonable person designed such packaging and why drive up the cost of the product unnecessarily? At least give instructions as to how to save the package from damage!

These things are a life saver! We were riding UTV's on Windrock Mountain in Tennessee. We had just picked up a new pack of Husky Tie Down Straps. We had the boxes and coolers in our UTV's strapped with them. We had a really odd string of bad luck and broke the frame on one of the UTV's. We were about 20 miles deep in the woods on the top of a mountain and had to come down rutted and washed out trails to get out. The frame broke at the upper shock mount and the shock came through the hood and headlight. We weren't riding rough, just really bad luck. It was 2 hours before dark and we were about 1:45 minutes from town. Someone came up with the idea to use the straps to strap the suspension back to the frame. We decided we had 4 straps total and we would use them all if needed to get out of there before nightfall (Dec. in dead of winter). My husband, father and brother strapped the suspension to the frame using our huskey straps. We only used 1 strap and was completely sure it would break when put under pressure. It was holding up about 600 lbs of dead weight and the entire weight of the machine would be put on it when we had to go into a rut (there were lots). None of us could believe it when the strap held this machine together and got us off of the mountain before dark! It was truely amazing! So if you ask me how much a husky strap can hold, it could hold together a side by side to get off a mountain!

I had to transport a 28-ft extension ladder and these tie-downs were able to secure the ladder down on top of my vehicle. The ratcheting mechanism was very smooth as well, along with the handles which made action very easy.
