Questions & Answers

How do you open the package and free the straps?

I partially freed the straps but cannot open bottom compartment to get them out.
Asked by: KathrynS
Once I figured it out it was actually pretty easy. First take off the cardboard from the back of the package, it's glued on with 8 glue points. Next, there are three tabs, two on the sides of the box and one at the bottom. Take a flat head screwdriver and pry the tabs toward the center of the package (from side to inside and from bottom toward top). This will pop open the box at the bottom that houses the S hooks and the storage bag. To easily remove the straps there are four channel covers, each has two little tabs at the bottom and one big one at the top. Grab the two little tabs at the bottom and lift them out of their recession and then slide the whole cover toward the bottom of the package and they slide right out. Repeat for each one and this package can be opened in about a minute.

Asked by: fxsales
These will not work for an three inch gap. The hooks and the ratcheting mechanism take up more space than that. They can be used down to about 6 inches but you will have to unwind them from the ratchet and pull the strap material out until only about 12 inches is between the strap side hook and the ratchet strap mechanism. Then you will able to ratchet them down to about 6 inches.

how long is the short end that has the ratchet attached? I need to wrap it around my roof rack bar & attach it back on itself and still be able to use the ratchet.
Asked by: DIYBL
I use it on a roof rack on my truck all the time - the short end is about a foot and a 1/2 long which should be fine for most racks. But generally all you need to worry about is getting the ratchet in the right place when you put them on the rack so you can tighten and loosen them.

They have the strength and durability I need. The ratchets allow me to tighten the straps enough to hold the cars in place as I travel. I have also used these straps to tie down furniture and numerous other items in the bed of my pickup.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great quality, price, ease of use I had no option today but to transport a mattress and box spring on the roof of my SUV. Thinking of the ridiculous looking people with mattresses half blowing off their roofs, arms out the window hanging on for dear life, I needed a better plan. I picked these up first and used 2 of them to secure the mattress and box spring to the roof rack. I'm telling you, quick and easy. And nothing moved an inch. 50mph, 30 minute drive, didn't move an inch.

You just never know when you'll need to strap something down. These will come in handy when I load my car up with lumber, drywall, or any other large items. With the handy carry case it will be simple to toss these into my car before I go on a shopping spree. Heck, these will be handy the next time I go to the garden center and I need to keep pots full of dirt from toppling over in my car. And when I decide to move something large around the yard with my two-wheeler - no more shows of stupidity for my neighbors!

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Takes jaws of life to get them out! I realize everything is packaged to prevent stealing from store but these things require 'jaws of life' to get them out of the package. I wouldnt recommend them or buy them again based solely on anti consumer packaging.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from good not great I have ised them during my move to my new house. They were very useful for moving my washing machine and refrigerator. However, there were situatios where i was not able to tighten anything that was a little narrow because the ratchet drum is too small to pull in more ropes. You would have to cut one end of the rope to make it fit in the rachet. Another thing is that the rachet storage is very flimsy. It broke when i tried to store them back.

I can't believe I've been thwarted by the packaging. I bought them to use and need them now but they're useless if I can't get into them in the next few minutes. No help to be gotten from the company. They're closed for the weekend and everyone here is frustrated but has no answers.

Great for increasing leverage as well as safety when using a hand truck to move bulky items. It's well worth having in your tool kit. One negative: the handy carrying and storage case might as well have been designed by the same company that makes Rubik's Cube.
