A:  Magnesium floats benefits are they are the lighter of the floats between aluminum or magnesium. Magnesium are a few dollars more. They will both work the same. Magnesium are slightly weaker than aluminum. The other options would be wood or resin. Wood tend to draw water up into the wood float and after use tend to get fuzzy wood fibers on the surface of the float but are half the price of Magnesium typically. Wood tend to leave a rougher texture similar to resin floats. Magnesium leaves a smooth surface and opens the pores in fresh concrete for proper evaporation without pulling the surface compared to wood. Aluminum floats function very similar to magnesium. If you are pouring the concrete counter tops with the finished surface up you probably want to use a steel trowel for the best finished surface.

A:  Definitely worth it. The headache you save yourself fighting with the materials will be well worth the extra expense.

Started using this float on 40”X40” pad and the coating started coming/peeling off, which lead to leaving marks on concrete. Did not expect to have issues on the first job.

This float and an edging tool were the essential equipment I needed to be able to finish concrete like..... an experienced amateur. Yes, pros are still better than me, but having one piece of pro-grade equipment made my father-in-law envious of my results which were much better than his effort....and isn't that the goal of any DIY project.

This concrete finish tool by Husky is a good quality product for DIY or professionals. It is made of magnesium alloy for long durability. The float has rounded corners to minimize gouging. It has a substantial cushioned handle that gives good control and is easy on hands. This tool is well suited for smaller finish jobs (sidewalks and small drives) that need hand floating. Check this out if you need a concrete float.

Husky 16 in. x 3-1/2 in. Magnesium Float is a nice well-balanced magnesium float with a good non-slip soft grip handle. The magnesium floats work much easier for pushing and leveling fresh concrete and is very light. The magnesium float is much easier to clean at the end of the day. If you have the time just spray with a nozzle and it comes almost clean except for residue left around the handle attachment points. The clear protective finish does get worn down on the bottom surface but always performs well. You will be thankful after multiple trucks of concrete in one day. Less strain on the wrists and elbows. No need for linseed oil or diesel fuel as with wood floats for preservation.

          Coating Peeled Off
I love Husky products, but the coating on the bottom of the float started peeling off after 1 use. This left marks in the concrete and didn't allow for a smooth finish. I ended up returning this product.

The coating started to flake, almost immediately.

I was able to smooth out my concrete easily with such a nice float.
