Effectively yes. If you open the drawers, close the lid, then lock the lid. The drawers will be able to close pretty much all the way and still open. But you will have to unlock the lid to open it back up. Short drawers: A hair under 2" with the mat installed. Deep drawer: 4". The drawers are 22" across and 10 3/4" deep.

I can only speak from my experience, but when the lid is closed and the drawers pushed all the way in then they will all be locked. You have to lock it but it locks them all

It appears you would have to remove the drawers, take the mechanism apart and then try to reinstall the drawers. I would not try for fear of breaking the drawer slides.
