    Broke the same day
The D-handle broke the same day I bought it from the store. The spade is not the cheapest one on the shelf, so I had higher expectations. But the handle is plastic, so I should have known better. Since the D-handle broke, I stopped using it and don't know if anything else would break too.

Label lasted longer than the handle
Not the cheapest so thought would last. Had a feeling the plastic handle would break first. Didn’t think the label would last longer than wood handle. The label still says lifetime warranty. Hope that is still good.

Just what you need when manually digging for outdoor drainage
Why not 5 stars? Because of the lightweight plastic D-grip. Digging can be a vigorous activity, especially when prying rocks are involved. Keep the tool outside and sun can also degrade plastic. In my opinion, a 5 star shovel has some sort of metal D-grip with a softer material on the actual finger grips (which could be plastic with a metal core, for example). Everything else about the tool is fine, including the metal business end and wooden straight handle. Most importantly, this shovel is right sized. It fits perfectly for 4" outdoor drain pipe. My photos include hard pipe, but corrugated will fit fine too. I have dug way too much drainage footage with regular sized shovels or spades. This is much better because there is economy in the amount of soil to move. It is the right tool for the right job. Besides trench digging, I can see this coming in handy to clean up post holes too. Husky 28 in. Wood Handle D-Grip Short Drain Spade
My Review for Husky 28 in. Wood Handle D-Grip Short Drain Spade. It is a pretty decent spade. The D handle is plastic. The spade blade is nice and long. There is enough metal on the spade body that it makes pressing your foot into it fairly comfortable, or at least not uncomfortable. The metal on the spade is pretty thin, so I don't know how much force it will take.

        Well built, sturdy drain spade
My old drain spade broke where the steel socket ended on the shaft. On this Husky drain spade the steel socket extends far up on the shaft, so the area likely to see the most stress is well reinforced by that steel. The shaft is nicely finished / varnished Eucalyptus, which is a strong, rot resistant wood. The top D-grip is plastic with a textured finish and has a comfortable no-slip grip. The design and materials allow you to get a lot of leverage on the job, and the shovel is built well enough to be one of those rare tools that could last a lieftime.
