Q:So the key bar freely rotates in the square bar?

    Answer This Question

A:  Yes it freely rotates so you can go in at any angle necessary without a struggle. The bar will not come out, as it has metal tabs on the bar to keep it from sliding out. Extremely secure.

A:  Yes and it slides from side to side. You can this in the photo below.

      by|Feb 28, 2021

A:  that is the way it seems to be designed but it seems too short and not enough length to get the torque you need to move most water meter values

A:  Yes, this is a problem as you will need to use another tool to stop the rotation in order to use it as a key. I don't know why they would do this.

This Husky 4-IN-1 Combo water meter key is a must have for almost anyone but especially if you own a home. Husky makes great products. This has lifetime warranty but I cannot see anyone ever needing to use it. The thing is solid like a tank. I wish I would have had this sooner when my sprinkler system went haywire and I had to go use incorrect tools to shut it off. This would have made it much easier. Well, since i still need to fix that problem and turn the sprinklers back on it will come in handy for that at least! It even comes with great instructions on the back explaining what each end is used for. This item does not actually get 'installed'.

I had a toilet water inlet valve that was leaking and corroded. To replace the valve, you need to turn off the water, drain the pipes and empty the toilet tank. I needed a tool to turn off the water at the water meter. The Husky 4 in 1 water meter tool was a compact solution to get the job done. The tool has two water meter keys, one straight and the other curved. The tool also has a pry bar and a slotted end to use to turn the water valve. I used the pry bar to open up my water main cover. I was surprised to see that a nearby palm tree had grown it's roots over the top of the valve. I need to use clippers to cut the roots away to gain access to the valve. I then used the built-in wrench to shut off the water. I then replaced the toilet valve and used the tool again to turn the water back on. The compact size of the tool fit easily into into my tool box for when it is needed again. The tool comes with a lifetime warranty.

In the universal list of tools that every homeowner must have, a water meter valve tool is an absolute must! Well, Husky has taking a needed tool and improved it. The Husky Ford one combination water meter valve tool is perfect. Meet much smaller than a traditional water meter valve which can be over 3 feet tall and difficult to store. The Husky 4 in 1 has 2 box keys (one straight and 1 offset) for lifting 95% of all water meter valve box lids. The keys are attached to a sliding bar which allows you to get in and open/close water valves are set close to the side of the meter box. (I've never seen a water valve dead center in a meter box!) There is a pry bar tip at one end and the valve key at the other. Husky took the time and effort to put this tool together with full welds and a nice finish. I wholeheartedly recommend the Husky 4 and one combination water meter valve tool and I also suggest that it would make a really nice gift for the first time home owner.

Every home or building owner should know where their water shutoff is and have the tool that will allow you to close the valve. This Husky tool has a couple of different "keys" for opening some city water meter lids. My suburban lid just needs to be pried open an this tool has the tip for that too. Some water meter shutoffs are located in a deeper meter well and in those cases this tool won't work because you won't be able to reach it. HD sells the longer T handle type for this.

The built-in wrench can be used to shut off or turn on water main. The angled and straight keys are designed to open meter/valve box lid. Backed by the Husky Lifetime Warranty. The above is the write-up on the seeds site. I have a 2 piece water meter key that I have had for quite some time. It is the key with a Red powder coating on it in the pictures. It has served me very well and I have used it only a few times. It has a few openings in the top section which accommodates the longer section that has the end piece for turning the water meter valve on and off. The different openings provide various levels of prying advantage. The Husky 4in1 Combo Water Meter key came in a blister pack which typically can give you fits but it had the pry bar section of it hanging out and that made it very easy to open. That is a positive. The key has silver paint on it and not powder coating. Since it is steel and iron you will want to dry it off after use if you get water on it to keep it from rusting at some point. The key has a lot of heft to it and does the job very nicely of prying open the cap for the water meter. It isn’t like you need a key to open a manhole cover where a longer bar is needed. I have a picture showing it sort of inserted in the cap ridge of my water meter. There are no key holes in my water meter to test out the 2 different keys but they should work very well. I checked with my youngest daughter and her water meter has a round hole in it which wasn’t large enough for either of the keys on the Husky tool. As you can see from my pictures I encountered a water meter box full of sandy soil. No problem I just dug it out with a garden tool. We will be having some work done on our bathrooms and will need to turn the water off at some point so cleaning it out takes care of that task and the soil was nice enough for using in exterior planters. My daughters was in the same condition when I checked hers. After cleaning out the meter box what I didn’t expect was to find the valve turnoff in a twisted position. As you can see in the picture where I have the Husky key there is an issue with the bar for the key ends positioning on the lip of the water meter box. I also took a picture of the red key and it illustrated why a longer length is better for these instances. You could still use the Husky key but with some adjustment I do like that the Husky key is only 7”X10.5” (178mmX267mm). It stores very easily in your tool box or under the kitchen sink. Being multi-tooled it solves the issue of having to have extra tools for such a simple task.

This husky 4 in 1 water meter tool works well as intended. The top wedge allows you to pry up a well stuck meter cover so it can be removed - after years of being closed they can be hard to open without this feature. If you have a cover with slits cut into it, the cross piece bar will fit into them also allowing the lid to be helped upwards also. Finally the small size allows this tool to easily fit into hand held tool kits. Older tools are often over 3 foot long and are difficult to carry and store in comparison.

This is an extremely useful tool in many ways. This versatile and efficient wrench has many variables. Even though we are well versed in the plumbing an rehab realm, we often keep this wrench handy and nearby when doing small plumbing repairs in case of a leak. It allows you to shut the main water off very quickly. It's sturdy and easy to use. The directions and options are clearly labeled on the back to eliminate the guess work involved. This is our second one that we purchased in the photo.

Husky is know for their quality and functionality, and this water meter multi tool is no exception. The different facets of this tool are to turn off the water meter at the street, 2 of the facets are to reach in and hook the concrete lid from the main shut off at the street so it can be removed to access the meter. Lastly there is a long pry end for wedging and lifting metal covers.

The Husky water meter key is an essential item to have for any household. If your water shut off valve ever fails inside the house or you have issues with your service line, you will need one of these tools to help you shut off your water at the street meter. The small footprint makes this tool easy to store and keep out of the way until it is needed. From the handle to the key end is approximately 7”, so if your water meter is deeper than 7” you might have issues reaching the shut off valve. Be sure to check the depth from the cover plate to the actual shut off valve to be sure this length will work for you. This tool was not long enough to turn the water valve with the handle outside, but since my water meter box was wide, I was able to get this key into the water meter box and use smaller movements to close the valve. I was able to turn off my water with just one hand, but this might not be the case for everyone depending on how seized or gunked up the valve could be. Opposite to the key end, you will find a pry bar end which is great if your plate cover is stuck. The “Handle” slides left and right to allow for extra reach when pulling up on the cover plate, there’s also safety notches on the handle to prevent your fingers from getting pinched when lifting the plate.

The Husky 4 in 1 combination water meter valve tool is an item that every homeowner should have in their home. If you develop a water leak in your home or need to service your water heater, this is the tool to have to shut the water off to your home. It is a heavy duty, well made tool that will take a beating and never fail you. It looks like it's zinc coated for rust protection which is good since it will be used in wet locations.
