does this axe stay sharp or does it require constant sharpening
-I have found that it is pretty good at staying sharp but I have to admit I do not use it constantly on a daily basis. I believe it is well worth the money though.
Is this durable enough to be used as a wedge with a sledge hammer?
You can but over time the axe head will begin to fail This will take years. Ultimately, the head will crack along the thin part where the handle goes through the axe head. Just get a few wedges and a sledge hammer which are made for that purpose.
I say yes you can but you might have a problem getting it out once it s in and you might crack the wood handle

If you're talking about using this axe as a wedge to provide an opening in a piece of wood, & use a sledge hammer to drive it in deeper, then sure! The problem, of course, is going to be getting it OUT!!! Unless you plan to leave it in permanently, I suggest you think of another way of doing things.

yes there is,you may have to drill round the rod to remove handle.

The handle is smooth and comfortable, so I'm not sure if there's a finish on it or not. Of course, I always wear gloves when using this axe, so the finish doesn't matter to me.
