Q:Is the head permanently fixed?

Answer This Question
A: EXCELLENT PICK AND NO MOVEMENT
by|May 10, 2021
A: Hi Dan,
The head is not "permanently" fixed it is machine driven as a slip on version as all Mattocks in the market today are done this way. Yes it can slip but it is a very small percentage if it ever does and would also depend if you are using it as a contractor day in and day out. Thanks

Hard job digging into this Ga clay and Granite.
My only comment other than it did the job with my help, is that it do the job it's self.

Avoid, avoid, avoid
It was good while it lasted, but the handle snapped off at the head after only a few uses. Do better Home Depot.

This tool is an absolute animal
I first purchased the wooden handled version only to have the shaft snap in two on first use. I switched to the fiberglass handled 5 lb. head for greater striking force and durability, and there isn't a lot I haven't been able to do with it. I live in an area with very rocky soil and have a smaller yard. I've used it regularly to tackle several tasks over a one year period with no degradation in performance: removing trees from the roots and dead shrubs, rock and soil excavation, and soil grading. The uses of this tool are so unique that I use it more frequently than my rake or shovel. There are few tasks this tool isn't up for as long as you have the firepower. It's a great workout, and completing tasks with it is very rewarding. You also feel like a BAMF walking around carrying this tool around.

Garbage
Just bought it today to help dig up some roots. On the first hour of use, the Mattock bent. Really? I’m either superhuman or the steel is a cheap mix. Gonna lose a lot of money cause it is lifetime warranteed. Its going back. Maybe try a name brand.

This works great. I had an area I needed to dig out that was next our sewer line. It had rots, clay and some rocks. This tool did a good job of cutting through the roots and getting the clay and rocks out. I had to look up the nomenclature of all the ends for this type of tool (I had no idea what a “pick mattock” was). Anyhow, the adze (the flat end) is very sharp and can cut through a tree root with just a few swings. The pick end also does a good job of getting the rocks and larger items loose. The handle is comfortable to hold and absorbs the blows. It had rubber on the grip to keep it from slipping out of the hand.

Heavy enough to do a good job but light enough not to tire. Good angles on pick and hoe to sink into the ground easily on each swing. Definitely recommend if you are laying shallow pipe or loosen dirt to move.
