You can certainly remove the head. Don't believe it will go back together in a reliably usable fashion though. Not saying it cannot be done, just saying it would take some work.

I am really pleased with my online purchase. Likewise, I believe I paid a fair price for the product. I primarily use it to remove Juniper/shrubbery roots. This ax is heavier than my previous ax, so I have to put a bit more testosterone into my swing.
