Can this cut through thick acrylic plastic?

Asked by Ash April 14, 2020

Answer

I hate to say, “How thick?”, because I may not see your reply so let me say this: this little saw uses a blade that is about 1/4” wide. It is great for some projects that are light duty. However, I think if I were wanting to cut through something thick I would prefer a full size blade. The stability of a wider blade will help keep a straight line.

Can this saw cut through 3/8 inch fiberglass rods

Yes it could. If a super straight cut is required, the larger blade on a full size saw will perform better.

I lost the front tension stud. Is there a replacement part or do I just buy a new saw? I hate to ...

Time for a new saw I’m afraid. The cost of stocking and shipping such a part would be more than the cost of the saw.

Hi, can this cut a 1/8" thick aluminum bar (1 inch wide)?

It could. But if you can use a full size saw with a wider blade the stability of the larger blade will help keep a straight line when cutting.

How to change the blade

Unscrew the knob towards the handle to release tension. This will allow you to pop the rear end of the blade out. Let that end continue to drop, and it will be released from the front as it approaches a 90 degree angle from the installed position. To put in the new blade, do the steps in reverse. Put the blade into the front mount so that the pin engages, then pivot the blade into the rear mount and tighten the knob.

I would like to buy 100 of these saws per week with an initial starting order of 200. What is your best price for these order quantities?

For this kind of order I would consult the Contractor Or Pro Sales Associate in your nearest store. If there’s a discount to be had, these folks will get it for you. And I’ll bet there is.

I have used it to cut through rebar and while it took forever, it got the job done. If it can cut through rebar, it can absolutely cut through CV pipe.

Can this saw be used for cutting wood and make precise cuts?

I have used mine to cut a lot of wood--from trees to various pieces of finished and unfinished wood in my shop. It is excellent at cutting; however, I would not recommend it for precision cuts without some form of guide.

For clarification, this is for the blades themselves and not the frame of the saw. I've had one of these for 5 ish years and have worked well with cutting steel. But today, I go to replace the saw blade. I get a 4 pack of the blades that are stated for cutting metal. I was cutting through a 1 inch diameter steel bar with one of my OLD blades and got a 1/4 of the way through before the blade was too dull. So I picked them up, put in a new blade, start sawing again... And... The teeth of it didn't even dent the steel. I tried all 4 blades... All of which did jack squat on this bar. My old one that had already cut through some plate steel and a quarter of the way through this did more in 5 minutes of sawing than all 4 of the new ones couldn't dent. And I'm not exaggerating or being hyperbolic. Not a scratch with 4 new blades. Shameful.

This is a great product.  I own two of them, one for projects around the house and the other to keep in my truck so that it's on hand.  I've used both of them countless times and they work extremely well.  I actually prefer them over a larger full sized hacksaw, having found them more efficient.  Their small size also allows them to be used in tight spaces. I have used them to cut PVC pipes between wall joists, help a neighbor who locked herself out cut through a doorknob in her garage so we could break in, remove packaging wood from crates I was hauling home, trim trees in off-road areas, and even cut the horns off a deer that had been hit by a car so I could give my dog a nice fresh chew toy (and not pay a ridiculous amount for the antlers they sell at pet stores.) Affordably priced and durably crafted, this is well worth the investment.  It will hold its own and outperform far more expensive saws.  The handle is ergonomically crafted, allowing you to get aggressive cuts and make short work of most materials.  I've used mine on wood, plastic, and metal and was pleased with the results on each. I absolutely recommend this product.
