What is the precise weight?
Would this be strong enough to compress a disc brake cylinder on a compact car?
yes
Haven't picked mine up yet, but since it's rated at a whopping 2,500(!) lbs. of clamping force, I'd say YES! I've seen clamps rated for only 800 lbs. successfully used to compress the calipers during brake jobs.
Absolutely. I use mine for a mobile mechanic service and it compresses single or dual piston calipers without an issue just as long as the caliper isn't seized.
What is the weight?

how to unlock red tab
Align your thumb and index finger at the thicker ends of the red tab and push up. You will then be able to slide the clamp threads.
Push down on red tab at angle 45 degrees to vertical.
It isn't locked. It can be difficult to use until you get familiar with how it operates. Push it in a straight line parallel with it's sides and away from the screw. That releases the treaded part of the clamp and allows for rapid opening and closing.
Just push the red tap in the direction of the pointed end (you must push both sides at the same time). Hold the clamp in the straight up or down position ( as to open or close the clamp). After some use you may want to oil the tabs, as fine sawdust may enter the red tab mechanism.
