Q:is there a wireless option to turning the vacuum unit on and off
by|Feb 15, 2023

Answer This Question

A:  Thank you for your recent inquiry with The Home Depot. Husky Central Vacuum Flex with Accessories and Electric Power Head (205891485) does not have a wireless option to turn on and off. We appreciate your business and look forward to serving you in the future.

by|Feb 20, 2023

A:  Wireless RF options are available for the power on off only, not the powerhead. This unit is not a battery powered power head - it is fully electric and the hose plugs into a wall outlet as well as the wall. After market radio switches may be available, but it is not available for this particular model at Home Depot.

Q:what size is the hose that plugs in to the wall? We have a system already in our home. I want to make sure the suction hose will work.

      Answer This Question

A:  The hose that comes with the Husky Flex package fits standard 1.5 inch central vacuum inlet valves. To use the powerhead, you will have to plug in the the power cord to a nearby 120v electric socket.

A:  If your unit is under warranty the company will replace them. We had an out of warranty problem early in the pandemic and used a company in Florida to order parts. It was called Vacuums Inc. Excellent customer service, reasonable prices and great return policy. It's too bad Home Depot doesn't give customers this information. I love our Husky central vac, but it would have been nice to get this info from the store we purchased it from, rather than from someone who bought it from them. Home Depot gets a zero review from me.

Very easy to install. Was done in less than one hour, which included installing a outlet as the old unit was hard wired. Hooked right up in the same place as the old unit. Nice and quiet and great suction. In use for over a month and we use it every week at least once.

Great unit that's easy to install and powerful. Bought this unit to install in our home where we had the tubing and low voltage wires roughed-in by the builder. While I know my way around technology, I am not what I'd call handy around the house, so this was a somewhat intimidating project. Thankfully, the unit is simple to install, and the manufacturer offers excellent service. If you have a similar setup with low-voltage wiring, note that the power head on this unit won't run via Direct Connect - low voltage provides 24 volt and this power head needs 110. To make my setup work I used ring terminals (search for 22-18 AWG 8-10 Stud Ring Terminal on Home Depot's site to see something like what I used), and attached the low voltage wires to screws in the Nuera inlets I bought. So, plug the hose into an inlet, plug the pigtail into the nearby 110 volt outlet, and when the switch on the handle is flipped to rock-n-roll (II), the signal is sent to the vacuum via metal contacts on the hose that connect to the screws. The vacuum activates and the head powers-on. Works sooooo much better than our conventional push vacuum! Other parts I used, in case it helps: 4x2-foot 3/4-inch plywood (2x2 would be enough, FYI), 8x 3-inch wood screws for mounting the plywood on the drywall/studs in my garage, 2x 1/2-inch screws for mounting the plate to the drywall, 5 feet of 2-inch PVC (your distance will vary), one standard 90 degree 2-inch PVC elbow, two 90 degree standard to 'street' PVC elbows, two 2x2 flexible rubber plumbing connectors, two large wire nuts for connecting my 7 low voltage runs to a short length of low voltage cable to connect to the 24 volt terminals on the unit, and 12 ring terminals for low voltage connections on the 6 standard outlets.

Nice Vacuum. Hose can be converted to Direct Connect for free.
I'm very happy so far with this vacuum. We put it under our steps just off the home theater so we can easily clean up popcorn and basement cobwebs. The attachments seem to be very nice quality. The main unit is much smaller than I anticipated, which is a good thing since I didn't want to lose too much space under the steps. One thing that's worth noting... We wanted the hose to be "Direct Connect" style which has two prongs on the front fitting that plug the 110v in from the wall plate but this hose came with a 110v pigtail cord that plugs into an outlet. I called Husky and they sent me a free converter that makes the hose direct connect and eliminates the pigtail. It took only a couple minutes to convert it and makes a much simpler connection rather than having a 6' cord dangling from the end of the vacuum hose. You obviously have to have direct connect wall plates in place for this to work. I used "Hayden Supervalve" wall plates that have the 110 female port integrated into it.

                  Powerful
This unit is powerful and does a good job vacuuming. I was surprised at the amount of carpet fibers I saw after vacuuming a 10 ft. square patch - which shows me how much more effective this is for cleaning than our conventional sweeper. Installation requires a 110 outlet and installation of the plumbing. So it is not for all do-it-yourselfers, but is not difficult. Of course in an existing home there are challenges in figuring out where to run the pipes - so I installed my unit under the basement stairs in our finished basement. This made it simple to put an outlet in a central position in the basement. The power head requires a 110 outlet to run the brush, so I also put a 100 outlet on the wall near the vacuum outlet. I ran the low voltage wire to the outlet, which is simple and necessary for this to work (the low voltage activates the motor when you plug the hose in). And for you perfectionists, yes I recognize that I should have installed the outlet with the door opening down (that is an easy thing to fix). The hose is a nice length - it is long enough to reach 4 rooms in our basement (nearly 1500 sq. ft). I plan to install a second outlet upstairs - but did not want to tackle the job of running the pipe through the wall yet (a project for another day). I also plan to run another outlet to the garage for cleaning our cars. The kit includes a number of attachments that will be great to use on furniture and on cars. There are also attachments that will work on hardwood floors and tile. There is also an extension wand - which I expect will be nice to reach high places for dusting (such as ceiling fans). The bag provided makes a nice way to store the tools. The unit is more compact than the unit we had in our previous home, which gave me more flexibility for installation. I believe it is more powerful than our old unit as well. It is pretty quiet - and since I installed it in a closet under the stairs, it is easy to hold a conversation while the vacuum is running. In fact the power head makes more noise than the vacuum - but not an unreasonable amount. The power head even includes a light on the front that is nice for vacuuming under the sofa, and another light that indicates when it senses dirt (or lack of it). You will need to buy an installation kit (the pipes and wall outlets). The Home Depot does not sell these, so I bought them at a local vacuum shop. I got the low voltage wire and 110 wiring at the Home Depot. Now if only I can get the kids to use this thing...

A great system easy to install!
Finally a central vacuum system that I can easily install in less then a day. Husky's central vacuum system came with everything I needed, except the piping and outlets. I plan to install this unit in my basement to minimize sound from unit. I ordered the piping and outlets as a four-outlet kit and have devoted next weekend to install unit. I will add more pics to show installation process. I am very satisfied with this unit. The Husky Flex is a compact and powerful central vacuum system that features an impressive 141 in. of water lift and 137 CFM of air flow along with its 651 air watt. Robust, elegant and stylish with an all metal construction, including high end baked enamel epoxy on the cylinder as well as a brushed aluminum finish on both the cover and the canister, this Canadian manufactured vacuum is ultra-quiet with a sound rating of only 60 dB. In fact, it’s so quiet that it does not require a muffler. The Flex has a large 4.8 Gal. ultra-light dust container and can be used with or without a disposable filtration bag. The high efficiency permanent filter has an antibacterial treatment and can be easily removed for machine wash. Nothing Escapes It!
This central vacuum is one of the nicest I have seen. Attractive in appearance and a real work horse. I wish I had purchased one long time ago. I love the on/off switch on the handle. The high polished chrome wand is built to last and is well balanced. The 30' hose is lightweight and is easily gathered and stored on the included wall hanger The Hybrid filter system consists of a machine washable permanent filter with SILPURE antibacterial treatment for odor prevention and superior air quality. When used with a Husky high efficiency disposable filtration bag, the system performs a double filtration for unparalleled air quality. The ultra-quiet power unit measures 58 dB without the use of a muffler. The "Soft Start/Stop" functionality increases the durability of the motor. The 21.1 liter ultra-light brush aluminum canister is easily removed with Ergonomical handles with integrated latches. Many other features providing an economical high performing vacuum system. This unit does NOT come with piping or fittings. You may purchase individual parts or kits for installation. Many choices of inlets. Husky has great online support for DYI installation. Their included User's Manual is quite sufficient for proper operation. I installed my system myself after several hours of research and designing my own 3 inlet custom installation. Vacuum system grade PVC Piping, valves, and connectors etc. and low voltage wiring came to less than $140.00 USD at my local Vacuum Dealer. I installed into an existing one story ranch. I have one inlet centrally located on the first floor, one in the basement, and one in the garage. My 30' foot hose reaches all areas. One con: Did not find any information or instructions about the two wands included in this kit. The heaviest one is for the Power Head Brush for carpet and the other, lighter one, is for the other accessory tools included. Both wands are telescoping.

                  Wow
Wow, I have to say that this was much more than I was expecting. This central vacuum came with more accessories than I thought it would. The power head is bigger than I thought and looks beefy. The rigid hose extensions are good and the flexible hose is very long giving it a far reach anywhere within and beyond my garage area which is perfect for vacuuming out the cars etc. This will be a nice unit when mounted to the wall.

So Quite with All the Power Needed
Perfect retrofit Central Vacuum and ever so simple to install. Now I read so reviews and heard it had no instruction for retrofitting, but let face it all that needed is to remove the old unit, fit the mounting board and hanger and put the new unit in place. Any control wires are already ran with the old system so you only have to connect the two wires to the unit just as they were. My old unit had two motors and there were four wires on the unit paired to two connected to the two from the house wires with twist caps and all the do is complete a loop the start or stop the unit from the hose handle switch. The power to the unit is straight forward to, just plug it into the wall and your set. Bottom line here is you can read the instruction to plumb vacuum pipe and wire in a wall for a completely new system, you can retrofit a house already fitted, jus skip the steps already done. Now for the operation, Quite is an understatement here, the soft start builds to full power like turning on a fan, so there's no big bang noise as it starts or stops for that matter. It's power is twice that of the old unit and the power head just cuts right though the dirt. If there is any down fall, it is that the power cord is only 5 or 6 feet, so there has to be an outlet near the house vacuum port or you will need a short extension cord as is my case for the upstairs with only one port in the hall (center of the level). The accessories are full accessories, lighted, clean indicator, self powered in that it pulls itself forward and you pull it back. there's two extension tubes, one for the power head and the other for the accessories like floor and dust brush. Everything you need in one kit, however if you are installing a completely new central vacuum system you will still need to but pipe and wire and all that's needed to install them.
