750 MCM Ratcheting Cable Cutter

This is a very sharp cutter. It cuts through the cable and leaves a nice cut edge. Hand cutters tend to leave an uneven edge picas they tend to crimp during the cutting process. The finished edge is nearly perfect. If you are using termination ends, it is essential to get a perfect cut. This cable cutter has a lock to keep the handles together, and a quick release latch to open the jaws. The cable cutter doesn't tend to "bog-down" on larger cables. I wished it came with a carrying case.

As an electrician of many years, I've long been a fan of Ideal Industries and their products. Cutters work well. I do like the comfort of the handles, with its rubber overmolding - definitely nicer than the pair I am coming from. I didn't really see a benefit to the Bigfoot part of the handle personally, but then I've only used them through 4/0 thus far. Handles do need to spread quite a bit before engaging the ratcheting mechanism each time, so folks with smaller hands may find that somewhat of an issue. I also found the unlock mechanism a bit difficult to work, but assume that will loosen up with use. I cannot find any mention as to country of origin on the item, packaging or literature, so must assume China.

The Ideal Big Foot 750 MCM ratcheting cable cutter seems like a good tool and does the job but isn’t very easy to use in tight spaces. The ratcheting jaw opens all the way and can be released mid cut. There is a handle lock as well in the form of a turn knob. It has a comfort handle that also has a high leverage “big foot” boot at the end. Designed to cut aluminum and copper cable.

I love the high leverage big foot boot and that is has a safety lock that will prevent if from opening in you tool bag. It comes with a limited one year warranty. You can purchase replacements for the moving blade and hardware. All in all another quality product from Ideal who in my humble (37 years as and electrician/contractor) is an leader in the industry. The Ideal, 750 MCM Ratcheting Cable Cutter is a great tool for any electrician that may have to deal with very heavy cables. 750 MCM is a older cable designation and its outer jacket is over a inch in thickness. I tried cutting some 200A service aluminum wire and this tool cuts it with ease. The ratcheting gives a great amount of torque and the thick comfortable handles make the cutting job easy. This is a great tool to have in your truck as it will be the type of tool that is priceless when you need it on a job. It should save time and makes a clean sharp cut to make installing the cable easier. This cutter is designed to cut copper and aluminum cable.
