Product Overview

The WSP spin down sediment filter is the first line defense to your appliances. It protects and extends the life of your standard filters by removing the large dirt, sand, and rust particles before they reach the rest of your plumbing system, including expensive appliances. WSP50 is flushable and reusable. With just a toggle of a switch, it can flush out particles that are trapped in its filter. The best thing is, you dont even need to shut down the water supply to do that. The WSP spin down sediment filter comes with a variety of options in micro size. Smaller microns allow less through, but to get most life and efficiency out of your filters it’s important to only go as small as you need. Differences in water quality and your water pressure affect the performance of the WSP. The WSP-50 spin down sediment filter is ideal for filtering out course sediment larger than 50 micron. The stainless steel screen makes the flushing and cleaning process very simple, allowing flushing of the contaminants through the bottom of the filter when the cartridge begins to get clogged. This allows the stainless steel filter cartridge to be used over and over again without needing to be replaced. The 1 in. outlet MNPT fitting provides a maximum 20 GPM flow rate, and the WSP-50 also features 3/4 in. NPT threads on the inlet and outlet. The housing is manufactured with FDA approved grade materials.
  • Ideal frontier water filter protecting your entire plumbing system from sediment, rust, dirt, sand, and large particles down to 50 micron
  • Flushable and reusable takes the considerable workload off finer filters that follow behind it; unlike traditional sediment filters, regular flushing keeps the WSP performance in control
  • Solid lead-free brass machine head with stainless steel mesh filter screen that usually lasts 1 - 2 years
  • Easy installation with double threads: 1-inch MNPT and 3/4 inch FNPT on both ends, garden hose barb fitting on flush out valve. See-through housing provides easy visual monitoring
  • 40 - 100F, 20 - 100 psi, indoor only, extended manufacturer warranty, support at 123filter.com, 678-261-7611, Alpharetta GA
  • NOTE: Screens with 50 or 100 micron may be clogged very soon for water with high sediment content. Please choose the micron size accordingly

Yes... Housing is plastic. In addition, the housing easily cross threads when attaching to upper brass portion. This makes unit virtually unusable. Happened to me twice. I removed entire filter unit. A total waste of time & money.

Waste of time. Simply use a hose filter in both the hot & cold hose lines to the washer. This filter fits inside the brass hose fitting that attaches to the washing machine.

Can this water filter be installed after a line water heater?

would not recommend you do this since every month you have to do the clean out which makes water come out of the filter and flushes out the filter. I don't think you would want water all over your hot water system.

Technically the answer is yes, but no this will probably not help with your problem. When the iron is in sediment form it can be simply filtered out but if your water already looks clear to the eye then you have dissolved iron that will get through any sediment filter and then form into sediment after it has passed by the filter. The cleaning agents in the laundry actually speed up the process of solid sediment formation as well as the churning of the washer which adds oxygen to the mix. A water softener or oxidation filter is the only thing that can help capture the dissolved iron. We're in pretty much the same boat but lucky haven't noticed too much of a problem with the laundry. Our water looks perfectly clear but leaves iron stain in sinks and toilets.

Answer

Hi Eric, We have two models: WSP-50 and WSP-50SL The SL model has siliphos in the cartridge and is the main difference between the models. Please contact our office at 678-261-7611 if you have any additional questions. Thank you, iSpring Water Systems LLC

Can I connect ball valves on either side to isolate the filter for cleaning? Are these usually in an isolation loop?

Hi MCR, Some customers will install a bypass when they purchase a whole house water filter or the WSP spin down series to make the filter changing process easier and also to avoid shutting off the entire water supply to the house when the systems are being serviced. Thank you, iSpring Water Systems LLC

Great pre-filter
I use the 50 micron filter on my well system as a pre-filter before the 5 micron filter and UV system I use. It helps keep the larger pieces out and prolongs the life of my second filter. Things to note. When cleaning make sure you remove the screen from the plastic insert to clean the inside of the screen as well as the outside. I use a tooth brush and vinegar. When screwing the whole thing back in, make sure there are no derbies on the threads and do not over tighten. The O-ring will stretch out over time so make sure you get plenty of replacements. Nick, at ISpring was a great help for me with that. If you have any questions or issues the iSpring guys are great and will help you out. I also like to get made in America products whenever I can, especially when they are good products like this spin down filter.

I recently moved to a well system and installed this filter to guard against sand. I chose this brand and model because it seemed to be the best constructed (metal vs plastic). I have found it to be easy to flush out and it seems to be catching the sand and grit that would have entered my water system and appliances. In my situation, occasionally the filter needs to be opened and the element cleaned with a toothbrush but this is still a quick and easy maintenance procedure. The only concern I have with the filter is that sometimes the filter element bowl tries to cross thread when I put it back together if I am not careful. I have also contacted the manufacturer to secure extra parts and they were very helpful.

This seems to work quite well - I'm early in the usage cycle. Installation was straightforward. The flushing/cleaning process produces a lot of water. Buy drainage tubing from the start.
