Product Overview

The Ideal Spacers are perfect for supporting loose outlets and preventing faceplates from being broken. These spacers help eliminate the need to cut plate screws for GFCI decorator devices when they are installed on tile and marble and can also be used as shims. Tear apart Spacers caterpillar together to create desired shim depth.
  • Adjusts length of receptacle or switches for proper fit of face plates
  • Not intended to be used in lieu of standard means of support or when in conflict with governing electrical codes
  • Slips over screw between device and electrical box
  • Snaps on over #6, #8, #10 screws (screws not included)
  • Do not use if finish is combustible (e.g. wood paneling) without proper barrier

Your original screws should still work unless your backsplash is really thick then you’ll need longer ones.

Yes. Be careful, shut the breaker. Measure the depth change and fold the 1/8" spacers as needed to make up the depth change.

I would recommend using an "electrical box extender" for that purpose.

I am looking for spacer to permit cover plates to be flush when backsplash is installed around outlet

I used this to make my receptacles, outlets and switches level after installing a tile back splash. This should help with the fit of the cover plates, since the cover plate screws into the receptacles.

Package states that "each spacer is 1/8". However, this is not true. The spacer thickness including the pegs appears to be exactly 3/16" and the segment thickness alone appears to be exactly 3/32". This is important to know because for my application one spacer per screw was all that was needed--two devices/4 screws total. However, the pegs created too much thickness so I had to shave off the pegs from each spacer using metal files (see photo) so that both sides were flush to reduce the overall thickness. Each caterpillar strand contains eight spacers. Might I recommend that every other spacer not have molded pegs to provide more thickness options.

Great fix for recessed outlet fixtures. I had to cut off the extra plastic when I separated the tabs, but still a great easy fix for outlets (once I watched a youtube video to see how to complete the job).

Easy to use
I purchased these for the receptacles on a backsplash in my kitchen. They are super easy to use and work perfectly. I like how they snap together which makes the install much easier.
