Height adjustment

The product description mentions that the table’s height is adjustable. How, exactly, is the height adjusted? For example, are tools or partial demounting of the table required, or is height adustability built into the hardware so that it is easily accomplished by one person? What is the range of height adjustment possible once the table is mounted to the wall?
Asked by: Scott
you adjust that in your install plan

This is a great space saver, installed in a garage and can still fit cars if needed. Its solid wood and very sturdy metal supports. The bench unfolds by just lifting and locks into place by itself once upright, then it folds back down by pushing in 2 handles easily accessible handles at the bottom. The installation was a little difficult by myself since its a very heavy piece to hold, I would recommend a assistant- or as I ended up using some stacked storage bins under it to support it at the desired height, then pre-drilled and screwed in while still using the bins for support. It comes with heavy duty screws to attach to wall and once installed can easily take some serious weight. the brackets are preinstalled at 32" to accommodate 16" stud spacing. Be aware the description states 500lb capacity , but the instructions state 400lbs. but realistically I will not be putting anywhere near that , but I would actually trust more weight on this than I would trust on my economy workbench. I priced out purchasing the brackets and top separately and it wasn't a better deal, this is nicely priced and I feel I can trust it to be as strong as I need.

It’s about 48” wide by 24” deep and mounts to the wall with quick-release foldable brackets. When folded, it’s just over 4” deep from the wall—very compact. Note that, though the product advertises itself as featuring “adjustable height,” it really means that you can mount the brackets to the wall at whatever height you wish—once mounted, the height is fixed. A quirky thing is that the work bench comes with 11 screws (10 plus one extra) for mounting—each screw comes in its own plastic bag, all stapled together (see Photo 1). I’ve never seen anything like this—very non-green packaging. Now, about the work bench—it’s very heavy duty—in fact, it’s necessary to have an extra set of hands to install it, and it should definitely be installed onto studs. If that’s not possible, I would suggest you mount a large piece of (at least) 3/4” plywood on the wall (into the studs) and then mount the workbench to the plywood. Be sure you mount it high enough so that it will actually fold down (if you mount it so the brackets are against the floor, it won’t completely fold up because the top will hit the floor—it may look like mine is mounted against the floor (Photos 2 and 3) but my wall actually slopes down where the sheetrock ends, so my table does folds up nicely). I decided to mount the work bench in my laundry room where a fold-down table would be a great addition. I was able to locate the studs and confirmed that they were 32” apart, center-to-center. This is the distance between the mounting holes on the brackets. The mounting screws accommodate both Philips and 10mm hex. I prefer (and recommend) using a 10mm socket with an impact driver; I had no trouble driving in the screws (of course, I followed the manual’s instructions and drilled a 3/16” pilot hole for each screw first). Once mounted (see Photos 3 and 4), it’s very sturdy and easily folds up and down. It even looks good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This workbench is the absolute greatest. When I want to use, it I fold it up when I’m done, I fold it down, it stays out-of-the-way when I don’t need it. It is industrial-strength so I can use it for almost anything, even putting my dog on it while it from its nails. Folding mechanism is very easy to work with it’s a hinge bracket, you just push it, and fold it up. It is a very high weight capacity, steel, and the rubber wood top is very durable. I’m glad I bought this. Installation was just a snap with drywall screw in beam, and a butterfly molly on the other.

Installation is extremely difficult for one person. Very heavy and the supports are already attached. Heavy just lifting it out of the box, let alone marking the wall and drilling. Really don't like the design of the supports against the wall. The slightly thicker top causes the workbench to tilt down. The included screws are good if attaching to a stud, but that wasn't possible for me. We'll see if the wall can truly support the table weight. In my installation, I definitely wouldn't put 500 pounds on it.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Industrial Steel and Wood Folding Wall Mount Workbench is an quality product with many uses.... This Industrial Steel and Wood Folding Wall Mount Workbench is an quality product with many uses. This is a very substantial table with a thick butcher block 24 inch x 48 inch pre-finished top. The wall mount brackets will hold up to 400 lbs. These must to be mounted to wall studs via the included lag screws. It's easy to install but takes 2 people to position while installing the lag screws. This is rated for indoor use only. The key feature is that this work table folds against the wall to save room space...so there are many uses and locations...including true workbench in a small garage....a desk in a small bedroom or in a kitchen....a serving table in recreation room....a play table for a kids bedroom....a work area in a laundry room. This is a useful table....check it out.

The materials are good quality, installation is easy for two people, but kind of tricky alone do to size and weight. Nothing some cleverly placed 2x4 scraps can't help with. I was excited by the "adjustable height" in the product description, but in reality it can't be adjusted on the fly. Which in the end is fine. Raising and lowering is a breeze. As a woodworker, this is definitely more of a work surface than a bench. I use it as a place to apply finish. Because one whole face is completely unspuported, it's very springy and not good for any kind of mortising/chisilng. It also racks a bit if you get aggressive with hand planing.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect workshop addition for wall space near a door! I have a double-door side entry to my shop ... Perfect workshop addition for wall space near a door! I have a double-door side entry to my shop that is seldom used, but important when I do a big project. By installing the collapsible table on the wall near my door, I can better utilize my space, and still be able to drop the table when I need door access. I was able to get this installed in 45 minutes by myself, but the manual recommends 2 people. I made mine 37” high, the same height as a rolling tool-chest table surface that I have. To mount 37” high, I drilled a starter hole at 32.125” from the floor (3rd photo). Directions say to drill holes 32” apart (stud- skip a stud - stud). My table legs were an eighth-inch more, so check that before you drill. It was easy to hit the studs- I don’t (yet) have a wall covering in my shop! Each leg mounts with five hex-bolts. If you have a nut-driver attachment for your drill or impact wrench, use a 10mm hex head, or a large Phillips will work. The manual says 3/16” starter holes, but for pine studs, I went one size smaller, 11/64” with good results. One of the hinge bolts came out during shipping, but that was easily fixed with two wrenches (last photo). I love the rugged, all-wood look of this table, and it collapses easily by pressing up on two levers simultaneously. The manual says this will support 400 lbs when properly installed - I believe it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Whalen Industrial 22.66 in. H x 48 in. W x 24 in. D Steel and Wood Folding Wall Mount Workbench comes pre-assembled all you need to do is install 5 screws on each down support and you have a convenient workbench that sits about 4” from the wall closed up. This can be used for many things, not made to beat on in my opinion, like adding a vise, but it will take a licking, it folds down after all. The lock is convenient, gravity pulls down the lock to keep the stop in place and by lifting and pushing with your fingers you can lower the top down, easily. The instructions are helpful in showing you how to plan the install. The instructions and the screws are packaged so you cannot miss them. It's well made and heavy duty with the thickness of the support metal at 2.25mm and the tube side support about 9mm thick. I had several places in mind to install one or more of these and decided at the mouth of my garage where I will repot my house plants and perform those sorts of tasks. I am installed it on a ½” piece of plywood using bolts and nuts and then installing the plywood to the basement studs using the included screws. That way sheetrock has no impact on the surfaces firmness and I will get the most support raising the load my workbench will carry and allowing me to use more than two wall studs for overall support. I am really very pleased with it.
