Q:I have had the ST01 installed for a few years with no problems. Now the batt indicator keeps showing "BATT" even though I have replaced with fresh batteries twice. The manual function works but it will no longer work on the timer mode!!

A:  Hello, This is Bruce with Intermatic Technical Support. We appreciate your inquiry. If you try to squeeze the prongs together on the battery tray just a little bit there may be a better connection for the terminals. If you have any other questions, you can call us at 815-675-7000 or email us at techsupport@intermatic.com.

Q:I cannot accurately set the dusk or dawn times. The DAWN time shows as 12:00am and cannot be adjusted. DUSK can be adjusted from 10:15am to 1:33pm. Neither of these are correct.

A:  Hello, This is Bruce with Intermatic Technical Support. We appreciate your inquiry. More than likely it will be your latitude and longitude for the timer. If your latitude is 42.2 and 81.7 on the timer it will look like 422 and 817. If you have any other questions, you can call us at 815-675-7000 or email us at techsupport@intermatic.com.

A:  I have always called the Intermatic company, the number is in the manual and they have ALWAYS helped me. I have it set to go on with sunrise and sunset. Try calling them.

            Easy Install and Works Great
I have purchased a number of Intermatic timers in the past for my own house and for my rental units. They are super easy to install and have worked perfectly over the years. There are several timing options for each day of the week so there is a lot of flexibility with regard to having your lights come on and turn off. If the power goes out, there is a handy battery backup so you won't lose your settings.

            Durable, useful, clean
I have 3 of these in various places in my house. These are solid devices that work great and look good. Beats a regular switch/wiring up a photocell by a mile.

Installed 3 In a Day - Programmed in Minutes
I installed 3 of these on Saturday in two different 3-gang boxes. 2 of them are 3-way, one is single pole. As per the instructions, I programmed all 3 prior to installation. Programming the first took about 5 min and the other two took literally 60 seconds. Now, all three outdoor lights come on simultaneously at Dusk and turn off at Dawn (I programmed Dawn = 7:15AM). So I have it set to AUTO Dusk and Dawn, but I manually set what time I wanted "Dawn" to be. has been working flawlessly for 3 days. Two important things- set the clock first and make sure you set it right- by default it starts with AM. Pay attention to the flashing parts- you can always move backwards if you hit a button wrong. If you have an old shallow 1950's metal box like me, this will be a tight fit, but if you are neat and deliberate with your folds (use a screwdriver to neatly push wires in behind the box) it will fit in. BUT you will need to ditch the nuts they provided and buy the 14gauge orange nuts (and 16 gauge blue nuts for any single wires you cap off). Trust me, the smaller nuts make all the difference. Also, do yourself a favor and buy the Ideal Push-in connectors for any bundles in the gang box- it will make it far easier to neatly fold in the wires insteaded of twisted wires. There is about an inch behind the box, but if you have an incoming Romex wire coming into the box right behind, then it's more like 3/4" space. But it can be done. Frankly, connecting the wires only took me 2 or 3 minutes and programming was another 2 or 3 minutes- what took me 3 hours was all my planning ahead: labeling all my incoming cables, labeling all my pre-existing wires, and re-wiring the box so that everything would fit. If you understand the concept of pigtailing- this is not hard. Plus- I watched the Intermatic Youtube How-to video twice and it was soooo much easier if you watch the video. The diagram drawing is worthless- however, the table showing what each color should be connected to is crucial. Working without a neutral was not necessary- what was necessary for me was a unit that could handle single and 3-way so all the units were uniform. Also, I returned the Tork timers because there were 6 wires on each unit and there is no way they would have all fit into the box after capping off.

                Expensive maintenance
Installed and was happy for the first month or 2 until I had to replace the battery. CR2 batteries are not cheap and this light switch goes through them so fast. Ended up ordering a huge case of batteries, and right when they arrive the display stops working. To replace the batteries you need a small flathead to open, broke a finger nail on it once when I was to lazy to grab my tool box. Just went back to a regular switch and I am so happy to be rid of this.

This is the second one of these I've purchased over the years. The first one worked great. This one not so much. I had a professional electrician install it for my front porch lights.Unfortunately we've been unable to get it to work properly. We wanted to use the dusk to dawn feature. The lights do turn on at dusk however they do not turn off at dawn. We've reset and programmed multiple times but it just does not work.

I just replaced an Intermatic timer blown by a lightening strike. It's a good timer. However, the display is difficult to read in low light, and sometimes confusing. You need to pay attention to the flashing parts of the display. It takes several tries to get the basic scheduling right. Overall a good replacement for the other Intermatic timer.

Easy to install and setup. I did have a little problem setting the Dusk On and Fixed Time Off setting. I had to read the instructions a few times to get the gist. One issue was that I thought dusk is the same a sunset but it is not. I live in the central zone so I set it to north zone and now the timer will turn on close to sunset. I like the fact that it has a relay and not a solid state switch. It can power any type of load

This timer is easy to install in the wall and has many on/off settings. The problems are the programming instructions are not easy to understand and the digital numbers/symbols are very small & hard to read. It took a bright light and magnifying glass and 4 separate hour-long sessions to finally get it programmed. It is now programmed for dawn to dusk which isn’t what I wanted but can live with it. The picture shows how small the window is to see the numbers/symbols and there is not enough contrast between numbers and background.
