About This Product

Hardie Trim Rustic Grain 4/4 Fiber Cement Trim Board has a multi-texture natural woodgrain look making it ideal for exteriors where a traditional wood look is desired. ASTM E136 noncombustible cladding will not attract pests including termites and woodpeckers. HZ10 engineering means it is made to withstand high heat, humidity, moisture, hail, tropical storms and hurricane winds. Trim is factory primed using a primer with a slight yellow hue. To finish, apply an acrylic, water-based exterior house paint to the primed board within 180 days of installation.

Questions & Answers

How many do I need for 150 sq ft
ByAug 5, 2026
1 Answer |
Answer This Question

Trim is not typically figured by the square foot. You would measure out the perimeter for your needed trim boards, such as around windows, doors, at your corners, etc. and then divide them out. Be careful of dividing them out by just the length of the trim board itself as that doesn't account for joints in your running surfaces which may not have the aesthetic you are looking for of solid trim board runs.

We do not recommend stains on our product, only water based paints.

Can the material be cut (saw)?

      1 Answer |
      Answer This Question

Yes, we recommend using the HardieBlades from Diablo, which are generally available at your local Home Depot to fit a wide variety of saw types. will home depot cut a Hardy Trim board to the length I want ?
        BySep 24, 2025
        1 Answer |
        Answer This Question

No, your local store will not have the tools needed to cut the siding and trim, and we do not recommend cutting the siding or trim inside with power tools, see our Quick Start Guide for tools needed to cut our products. https://downloads.ctfassets.net/dzi2asncd44t/7sNqp2JYhl4LsUJc4VfPyf/539feb4ecf12fc48dbac01d4ca9ca708/intro-tools-hz5-us-en.pdf

Recom'd finishing nails is 2"@16 ga? If predrill hole, a 5/64" or 1/8" masonry bit would be needed .. those bits do not exist. I plan to predrill with 5/32" mason bit and epoxy fill holes. Then drive finishing nail with hammer. crazy, but.... and adhesive

          Answer This Question

We would not recommend the process you are describing. Pre-drilling is not necessary for the installation of finish nails, especially if pneumatically driven. If you are planning on predrilling, a galvanized or stainless-steel 2" trim-headed screw may be a better option.

            Answer This Question

We recommend 2" long, trim-headed, stainless steel or galvanized screws.

Unfortunately, we do not make flashing products. Generallt other sizes are special ordered or you can bend your own out of coil stock.

Nothing beats Jameshardie siding & trim for siding replacement and Home Depot delivered the goods exactly as planned. Highly recommend!

I had my doubts about this particular material if it would be resistant and i was plesantly surpriced, I was able to finish my project a lot faster than applying stucco and all of the steps needed the money that i spend on this material is similar to what i would pay for labor and stucco but much faster and did it my self over a weekend

Apparently the strips were mishandled and stressed during the loading and unloading process. A fork lift was used allowing both sides of the load to flop up and down. One was broken when delivered. Now, the other 19 break when gently handled. How do you prove the were mishandled? So we are doing the best we can with the broken pieces

Our building operation has quite a few clients in high fire building zones. The James Hardie 4" primed rustic finish trim is our 'go to' trim as part of our high fire build package because it performs well. The material takes the paint well, cuts clean angles and nails on well.
