I switched to the walking foot provided and I can easily sew through 3-4oz but the machine goes too fast to use the foot. I have to hand crank it and sometimes sticks when the needle comes out of the stitch. Keep in mind this was a single layer of leather

Is machine on California warning list for harmful chemicals?

Asked by Rhonda June 28, 2019
1
Answer

Proposition 65 is a California health and safety law. Because our products are sold in the state of CA, we are obligated to place a warning sticker on the packaging, and California is very strict about requiring it. Prop 65 requires warnings at exposure levels 1,000 times lower than levels provided to have no adverse effect. In the state of CA there are Prop 65 warning labels on many items and in many locations, including vehicles, facilities, restaurants airports, hotel lobbies, and parking lots. In addition, there are warning labels and signs about second hand smoke being hazardous, etc., and we will probably be seeing these warning labels on more and more products because of this regulation in CA. We do not know for sure if there are chemicals in our products that cause cancer. In order for a company to be sure of this, they have to research the chemical composition of every part in the sewing machine or product, which means the chemical make-up of every gear, bobbin case, bobbin, including the paints, plastics, and metals that make up the machine or product, etc. The list of chemicals is currently in the hundreds and nearing the thousands and the list changes every year, thus a new analysis would need to be done every year on every item that we make. The cost to do this would be extremely prohibitive and would significantly increase the cost of all of our products. Most companies, including Janome America, Inc., have opted not to do extensive testing at this time. Having said that, rest assured that our products are UL tested. In addition, Janome and its three factories are ISO 9002 certified in Quality Standards as well as ISO 14001 certified in Environmental Standards. These are quality standards that Janome sets for itself that are based on several quality management principles including a strong customer focus to ensure that customers get consistent, good quality products and services. Unless these products are ingested, we feel that they are as safe as any other product that we would not think of ingesting such as a phone or an appliance on our kitchen counter or a cleaning agent we use in our homes.

Will this sew 10 oz leather together

Asked by Amanda June 26, 2019
1
Answer

In general, the leather should be less than 4mm thick and if you will be sewing through more than four layers of fabric, it should be kept under 2mm thick.

How many layers of fabric will it sew?

Asked by bledoux March 21, 2019
1
Answer

While the HD-1000BE is able to sew through various types of fabrics, if the layers of fabric are too thick to lower your presser foot completely, you will not be able to engage the tension and a stitch will not form. If that is the case, you would need an industrial machine as opposed to a home sewing machine. We do recommend that you take a sample of what you will be working with to an authorized Janome dealer. Ask if he can use your fabric it in a demonstration of Janome sewing machines so you can determine if a Janome machine will meet your sewing requirements. You may also want to consider the Janome HD9 Professional, viewable at this link: https://www.janome.com/machines/sewing/hd9/ To locate authorized Janome dealers in your area, please visit our official website at: www.janome.com and click on “Find a Dealer” or “Where to buy”.

are you able to sew vinyl and do you need to buy an atachmet for pip[ing

Asked by paul February 20, 2019

Answer

For sewing on vinyl, we recommend using the Janome ultraglide foot for front loading models such as yours. This foot is molded from a special resin, allowing easier sewing on vinyl that might otherwise stick to the standard metal foot. Regarding your piping question, we do not have a piping foot for this type of machine. However, If making or inserting extra wide welting, we would recommend the Janome adjustable narrow base zipper foot. Accessories may be ordered and purchased through local authorized Janome dealers. To locate dealers, log on to www.janome.com and click on "Where to Buy".

Machine was smaller than I expected, but runs very smooth and has a good weight to it so that it doesnt bounce or shift around while sewing. I am an avid Quilter and was looking for an extra machine to use when working on more than one project. So far so good. Have only used it for straight stitching.

This is a beautiful machine! I l HAD to have the black version; out just looks so clean cut. I can see how it would be great for a beginner or skilled sewer. Easy to read instruction manual, came with extra needles including those for leather, the decals included are cute. My favorite part is the storage compartment with the flip up lid; no having to take off the part to get inside to it. The cover is a nice sturdy plastic, easier than a case or having to keep it in the box. It sees beautifully. Only CON. If your thread jumps the pump Jack it's hard to tell. But that's it... besides that I love it. Well worth the cost.

First, who knew Home Depot sells sewing machines? Well they do, which is great I think it fits the diy spirit. Second, we're fairly crafty in our household and would consider the skill level to be a solid intermediate when coming to sewing. We first had a rock solid Kenmore machine that we have since returned to my mother. A Singer came and went. Then a Brother CS6000 which took a trip to my wifes workplace for her use (which she loves). There and now this HD1000 that has become the home use replacement. Right out of the gate it feels nice and solid and seems of high build quality. The needle threader is pretty simple to use and the reverse stitch is also very easy and makes quick work of multiple passes. There seems to be plenty of power if you're working with heavier materials so no complaints there. In addition there are plenty of options and stitch patterns and overall things work as they should. After several projects I would say we're comfortable using this machine however there are some drawbacks that left us feeling less excited. First, things have never felt quite intuitive enough. With other machines it was pretty easy to figure out most action items without the manual, but we found ourselves referencing the book a bit more than expected. Then oddly enough the light bulb gets really hot. Enough that it makes your work area a bit uncomfortable after awhile, that's weird and in the time of LED's seems unnecessary. There is no automatic bobbin stop and no thread cutter at the bobbin fill which is a bummer. As it is, the thread cutter is in a rather inconvenient spot on that back that feels out of the way to me. We have both found the speed to be a little tricky to control and the power cord, while beefy, seems like it wiggles around a bit too much. I'm not saying this is a bad machine, and quite a bit better than some lower end models. But at this price point and compared to other models we've used it fades a bit to the middle of the pack.

This is an excellent sewing machine for beginner through expert.
This Janome HD100 Black Edition sewing machine is heavy-duty and of excellent quality. The machine is well suited for beginners to professionals. The owners' manual is clear and concise. Some features noted in the short time we have been using it: the machine is very easy to thread; the bobbin can be quickly changed out, and the bobbin winder works fast; the foot pedal is very responsive; easily sews through thick material; and overall the unit is simple to learn and operate. In addition, a walking foot is included which is a real plus. The black edition coloring makes this machine a real standout in our craft room. Also included is a nice carrying case making the machine easy to transport. See attached photos. Well done Janome!
