A:  I would do every 10” or so.

A:  I would place a stake every 10' or so and make sure they will be outside the path area because less holes in the path mean less time the weeds and grass can come through. Weeds and grass will look for any hole to try to reach sunlight. I placed the stakes on the edges where my brick borders would cover them.
