Q:My doors are each exactly 36" X 80". My closet door opening is 72 X 80.25". Does the .25" space give me enough space to use this rail?

Answer This Question

A:  It should work.

by|Apr 10, 2022

A:  Yes. It should be no problem dbl check the specs on the rails(track) overall not depthbut thickness. the profiles depth will be from side to side. If that's confusing it's the same as your doors thickness. That's the measurement youll check withe the track.. Looking up if it was say installed measure profile from side to side. More than likely your doors are 3/4" thick. Give or take for swelling and the season changes. If there swollen even a 1/32" more they will bind up in the track. Check the specs regarding the Johnson bypass hardware kit. If that's not stated take your tape to the store and check that way. Also make sure you install the rollers and plates how the manufacturer recommends for the tracks overall size and that's including doors thicknesses as well. There's only 2 ways. Only one will work if overall measurements are spot on tight. Also check finish floor and jamb for over all level and plumb. The doors can only be adjusted so much. To solve that u either cut/shave the doors how ever needed. Do dbl check the tracks thickness. I believe this is the wider of the Johnson Brands. It is OK to cut down the over all length of the track if your openings width is say to tight. Be careful bending or damaging the track during install. Do predrill jamb anchor points with a bit and then attach to jamb with the screws provided. Work from one end to the other one by one. Don't screw it of from side to side and say meet in the middle. It will warp/kink the track. Don't hammer down on the drill either. That alone will kink 5he track. Why you should pre drill the jamb one by one as you go. Also the 80.25(80 1/4"s). The .25/100th of an inch of play is plenty of room to install the door/s how the manf recommends once the doors are ready to be hung in the track. Also it's recommended to not be cheap and use heavier rollers with actual ball bearings. You can find those as well in the same isle. Make sure there the same sizes regarding all aspects that the manufacturer provides in the Johnson track kits hardware. They do vary and don't make that mistake. Also I mentioned swelling of doors thickness. Bithe the bullet and get the bigger track. The more you fight your doors if they are binding due to that problem you will only destroy the track. Also when attaching track if you are solo and have no clamp use tape to temp hold it in place for install. Keep a good 1/16th of play between end of tracks and inside of jambs. If that's even a snug fit it will cause your track to roll and bind when screwing off. Nor so much of an issue if your doors thickness are not maxing out tracks overall thickness. That may seem like a lot of information but when getting down to actuall finishes and regarding doors and winders period the smallest details will affect the overall finished outcome. Believe me. Election is perfection. I W3NT TO THE HOME DEPOT AND THEY TAUGHT ME HOW TO GLUE IT!

A:  Your finished opening needs to be 1-3/4” taller than your doors. So if your finished opening is 80.25” tall, you can fit 78.5” tall doors in the opening with this hardware.

          Answer This Question

A:  I do not see why not with proper cutting tool.

          by|Dec 27, 2021

A:  Yes, you can cut the track shorter. Shortening the track 1” will result in the doors overlapping an extra inch when doors are closed. Also when the doors are standing open the opening to access the closet will be an inch narrower.

            by|Dec 27, 2021

A:  yes, simply cut them and install as usual. Doors will overlap a bit more is all.

              by|Dec 26, 2021

A:  Yes, can be cut; the track itself is only 71+1/8” as is in the package.

                by|Dec 26, 2021

A:  This comes with 71” track, so you’re good to go. If need be, you can cut the track down without issue, though.

Q:Will these work with regular 1.375 inch doors? Also I know the rating is 50lbs, but can I get away with 57lbs, which is the weight of a solid pine door?

A:  Yes, it works with 1-3/8” thick doors. We would not suggest using this with doors over 50 lbs each.
