A: This door "hangs" from the upper fittings. The lower bracket which attaches to jamb is just a guide hinge, it does not support any weight. The gap at the bottom doesn't affect its operation, but it needs to have clearance of about 3/4". Visually its fine because the door tracks evenly, If the header is level the door will operate smoothly.

A: Unfortunately, we wouldn't suggest going any less than that. Otherwise, the hardware will rub. We actually spec 1" for under the door with our bifold hardware.

I just needed to replace the top bar only but...

I just needed to replace the top bar only but bought the whole kit just in case. I was able to figure it out by looking at another door. The directions are pretty intricate for a DIY person but I did it. Works great!
